Chew Valley Dog Training

A few private 1-2-1 Sessions recently with this Young Labrador that suffers from getting over excited with the stimulus of people & dogs plus needs better on lead control around these distractions given his size & strength.

We have been working on lots of calming games and head collar desensitisation exercises away from these distractions, this week taking our learning to Chew Valley Lakes.

As you can see in a low distraction area boundary games teaching him that its ok to do nothing is a valuable exercise to teach your dog. He is now comfortable wearing the head collar which will be used for walking next week.

Chew Valley Dog Training

Lots of enjoyable training sessions again in the Chew Valley this week.

Wednesday saw the conclusion of the latest Silver Scent Detection Course plus lots of 1-2-1 home visits to puppies within the Valley.

I got to do another session with the young Japanese Akita this week where during the session we began to teach him a Down by rewarding the behaviour, with the use of an obstacle to achieve this.

A great calm / settled skill that's invaluable & an easy one to train.

Chew Valley Dog Training

A busy week of training in the chew valley this week with 2 puppy classes , the start of a Silver Scent Course plus some fun 1-2-1 private training sessions.

During these sessions topics covered included separation anxiety , excessive barking at home , plus the chance to work with one of the larger breeds a Japanese Akita.

Amongst other things we made a start on loose lead walking with him by initially teaching the command of heel and then working on the exercise without a lead . During our next session we will introduce the lead having already taught the dog that staying close to the owner is a rewarding experience.

A busy July Course with 2 sessions currently running on a Wednesday at Ubley Village Hall.

This week in addition to Recalls / Lead Walking / Sits / Downs & Jumping Up we worked on improving confidence by introducing new equipment & experiences.

Chew Valley Puppy Classes 2026

Below are the start dates of Puppy Classes being held at Ubley Village Hall for the remainder of 2026 .

They run over 4 consecutive weeks with each session an hour in duration.

They follow the structure of the Kennel Club Good Citizens Scheme & My Experience From Running The Police Puppy Program.

On completion you will have been given the skills to raise a confident, happy and well rounded puppy.

The Classes are £75 for the four sessions.
