We are incredibly proud to announce that ✨ Emily Summers RVN ✨ has been nominated as a finalist for the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) Jean Turner Memorial Award for Veterinary Nurse of the Year 2026.

The award recognises an Registered Veterinary Nurse who has gone above & beyond to demonstrate compassion & empathy within their role, whether that’s towards their patients, the families of their patients, or their colleagues 🐾

💚 Being an RVN is about so much more than clinical knowledge & technical skills. It’s about kindness, understanding, advocating for the patients & being there for people during some of their most difficult moments. 💚 Emily's passion & dedication to her role is why we believe she is so very deserving of her nomination.

We have no idea what the outcome will be, but knowing that someone took the time to nominate Emily is just wonderful and she will always be a star in our eyes 🤩

🐾✨ Meet Elea ✨🐾

Behaviour is communication, and every animal deserves to be heard. Elea is passionate about helping pets and their families by understanding the emotions behind behaviour—not punishing it. She believes every animal has the right to feel safe, secure, and fear free.

Elea is an Associate Clinical Animal Behaviourist with a background in Veterinary Nursing and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Animal Behaviour from the University of Edinburgh & she leads our Behaviour Referral Service. Membership of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) is a respected accreditation that recognises advanced theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in assessing and treating behavioural conditions. This ensures pets and their families receive the highest standard of evidence-based behavioural support.

Our Behaviour Referral Service combines compassionate, reward-based training with veterinary and medical support to help pets overcome behavioural challenges and improve their quality of life.

We love getting updates from previous patients! It was wonderful to hear from Cooper's pawrents recently, we are so glad that he is thriving 🥰

Elisa - your reputation precedes you - we mentioned his treatment with you at our recent vet check up and the Melksham vet team were raving about you! We were certainly grateful that we had the ‘best in the south west’ leading Cooper’s treatment - their words, but also ours!"

🐾🐾 Meet Elisa Best 🐾🐾

Elisa qualified in South Africa & after two years in small animal practice in Cape Town, moved to the UK in 1996. With a longstanding passion for surgery, she achieved her Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2003. She later relocated to the South West to work in referral practice, joining Rowe Veterinary Group in 2012.

As a soft tissue surgeon with a particular interest in oncology, she went on to gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Oncology (medical and surgical) in 2022. She is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in both Small Animal Surgery and Veterinary Oncology - the 1st & only in the UK!

Elisa provides a comprehensive approach to cancer care, offering both surgical and medical management, including chemotherapy and electrochemotherapy. She has also contributed to the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery and the Journal of Small Animal Practice.

Outside of work, she runs the charity Blankets for Baby Rhinos, which supports anti-poaching initiatives and wildlife orphanages in South Africa.

👀👀 Meet Tim Knott 👀👀

Tim is an internationally recognised veterinary ophthalmologist known for his pioneering work in equine and small animal eye care, his passion for education, and his mission to make ophthalmology more accessible to veterinary practitioners worldwide.

Tim graduated from the University of Bristol in the beautiful south west of England in 1995. He always wanted to be James Herriot, but caught the ophthalmology bug in his first year at Vet School. Tim tried balancing the demands of general mixed practice and his growing interest for ophthalmology for the first 5 years of his career before finally realising that cleaning cow manure from under his finger nails before intra-ocular surgery was not in his or his patient’s best interests. Tim set up a dedicated private ophthalmic referral practice, Rowe Referrals eye clinic, in 2000 followed by the equine ophthalmology consultancy service, the Equine Eye Clinic, in 2003.

Early on in his career, he realised that the biggest impact we can make on the health of our patients is by teaching. To this end he is proud to have served on the board of the British Association of Veterinary Ophthalmologists for over 10 years, he has examined and organised the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in ophthalmology for 7 years and is a member of the International Equine Ophthalmology Consortium - the IEOC. Tim also organises and helps to provide the British Equine Veterinary Association post graduate equine ophthalmology teaching for the UK. His ophthalmological mentor at Bristol was Professor Sheila Crispin and it was not long after Sheila’s retirement that, with great pleasure, Tim returned to Bristol University to take over the clinical Ophthalmology teaching in 2008 as an external consultant.
