Veterinary nurses undergo extensive training, typically over 2–4 years, which includes both written and practical examinations. Before qualifying, they must also complete a detailed professional portfolio to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and competence.

But qualifying is just the beginning.

Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) are committed to lifelong learning and must complete a minimum of 45 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) every three years to remain on the Veterinary Nurse Register.

They also take a professional oath when joining the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), pledging to always put animal welfare first, act with integrity, and uphold the highest professional standards.

We’re proud to continue investing in our knowledge and skills. Recently, Sara, owner of VetNurses4U, and Becky successfully completed the Fear Free® Accredited Certificate. This involved over 7 hours of specialist training alongside multiple assessments, helping us make visits and handling as stress-free as possible for the pets in our care.

Thank you so much for all your bookings and support. We are now fully booked for our 29th June nail clip clinic! ❤️

We still have a few appointments available on 19th June, so if your pet is due a nail trim, now is the perfect time to get booked in before those spaces go too. 🐶🐱🐰

Regular nail trims help keep your pets comfortable, mobile and happy, and we can come to you in the comfort of your own home. 🏡

Did you know that May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month? We want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible work veterinary nurses do every single day 🩺🐾

Veterinary nursing is so much more than cuddles and cute patients. Behind the scenes, veterinary nurses are highly trained professionals who dedicate years to gaining qualifications, practical experience, and ongoing education to provide the very best care for animals.

From monitoring anaesthetics and assisting in surgery, to running laboratory tests, caring for hospitalised patients, administering medications, supporting worried owners, and handling emergencies — no two days are ever the same. Veterinary nurses are advocates for animal welfare, compassionate carers, and an essential part of every veterinary team.

The role requires skill, resilience, teamwork, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure, often while working long hours and emotionally challenging shifts. It is a career driven by passion and dedication to improving the lives of animals and the people who love them ❤️
