Some Wonderful Feedback - These are the sort of heart warming messages that make me LOVE my job so much. I've worked with Sue and Roger since they rescued Dolly. She's a sweet, lively springer spaniel, who's bursting with energy, and more than anything they wanted to give her the freedom to enjoy all the sniffs etc, but her recall was so unreliable and they feared the consequences of having her off lead because her prey drive was so strong. They've worked tirelessly and we've met periodically to refresh and refine the training accordingly and this is what she messaged me to say yesterday morning:-
"Hi Kate, I just thought I’d update you about Dolly. Roger has continued to follow your training guidance every day, twice a day & it has paid off handsomely!
Dolly can once again run off lead, but the crucial difference is Roger asserts far more control now, he remembers your words that being around him should always be best & exciting, which it is. He no longer sends her to retrieve the toy, he lets her run free, then makes her return to him to get the toy.
He varies the training & also the rewards, sometimes a toy, sometimes a treat & sometimes just great praise.
She never runs far, but if she does, even when following a bird, a couple of peeps on the whistle & she turns on a sixpence & runs straight back. He also puts her back on a short lead at various times, then lets her off again, so she doesn’t always associate being back on the lead with the end of the walk & returning to the car.
We really cannot thank you enough for all your support, guidance, expertise, patience & friendship, we know we couldn’t have come this far & achieved what we have without you".
