Aldgate Vets is a proudly independent veterinary practice with surgeries in the East Yorkshire towns of Driffield and Bridlington.

Bridlington: (01262) 677269 We evolved from the first two veterinary practices established in Driffield, both with roots going back to the 1940s. Since then we have grown into a two-centre practice with 21 vets within the 60 people team across both sites. Our vets can also be found out on the road, paying visits to large animals such as cows, horses and sheep. In November 2022, we opened our state-of-the-art small animal hospital in Bridlington, offering 24/7 on-site and out-of-hours vet care.

If your dog needs to be spayed, did you know keyhole surgery may be an option? 🔑

A laparoscopic spay uses two small incisions and, for suitable patients, can mean less post-operative pain and a much shorter period of rest than a conventional spay.

Here at Aldgate Vets, the usual recovery period following a lap spay is around two to three days, compared with 10 to 14 days following conventional surgery.

After all, we know how difficult keeping a bouncy young dog quiet for two weeks can be. 🐶

We’re proud to be one of the few practices in the area able to offer keyhole surgery with our own veterinary team.

We understand some dogs find coming to the vets much harder than others. 🐕

A previous bad experience, nervous temperament or fear of things like examinations, injections and nail clips can all make a trip to the practice stressful.

That’s one of the reasons we offer dedicated behaviour and socialisation clinics with our behaviour nurse, Katie.

The sessions can help dogs who are fearful of the veterinary environment, as well as those experiencing issues such as anxiety, reactivity or separation anxiety.

The aim is to understand what they’re struggling with and work at a pace that suits them. 🐾

Still eating normally? That doesn’t always mean your pet’s mouth is comfortable. 🦷🐾

Dogs and cats can be surprisingly good at carrying on when they have dental pain, which is why some of the first signs are easy to overlook.

Persistent bad breath, red or bleeding gums, a chipped tooth or simply chewing a little differently can all be worth paying attention to.

If something in your pet’s mouth doesn’t look quite right, let us take a look.

In this video, our vet Serena talks about her work in orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery. 🐾

From fractures and joint issues to a wide range of soft tissue procedures, Serena plays a key role in helping our patients get back to moving comfortably and living life to the full. Previously, pets needing this level of care would often have had to travel to major close cities like Leeds, but we're proud to be able to offer it right here on Hilderthorpe Road.

Congratulations to our RVN Erin! 🎓

Over the past year, Erin has been studying towards her Veterinary Nurse Certificate in Medical Nursing, gaining a more in-depth knowledge of areas such as pharmacology, oncology, anaesthesia and analgesia, to name just a few.

After sitting her final exam, she’s been eagerly awaiting her results and, ta dah! Here she is: Erin Davis RVN NCert Medical Nursing.

Vet visits aren’t always a cat’s favourite day out. 🐱

New smells, unfamiliar surroundings and other animals can all make the experience stressful, which is why we’ve put a lot of thought into making visits to Aldgate feel calmer.

We’re proud to be a Gold-accredited Cat-Friendly Clinic, meaning your cat will have a waiting area away from excitable dogs, carrier cubby holes that can be covered to help cats feel more secure, and a separate cat-only ward if they need to stay with us.

They might not exactly look forward to visiting us, but we can certainly do our best to make it easier for them.

Fireworks season is getting closer, and while we might know what all the noise is about, our pets don’t. 🎆

The unexpected bangs and flashes can be frightening for your four-legged friends, so if you already know your pet struggles, a little preparation now can make the weeks ahead easier.

Here's a few things you can do to help your pet:
- Give them a quiet, familiar place where they can retreat if they want to
- Walk dogs during daylight hours where possible
- Keep cats safely indoors once it gets dark
- Close the curtains and windows to help reduce the noise and flashes
- Let them hide if that’s where they feel safest rather than trying to coax them out
- Make sure their microchip details are up to date, just in case they become frightened and escape

And if fireworks cause your pet significant anxiety, it’s worth speaking to your vet before Bonfire Night rather than waiting until the fireworks have already started.

There may be ways we can help make the season a little less stressful for them.

In this video, our vet Russell talks through ultrasound scanning and how it helps us get a closer look at what's going on inside your pet. 🐾

Ultrasound is used mainly for imaging abdominal organs, but it's also a valuable tool for heart scans. We're lucky to have vets in the team with further qualifications in imaging, along with a wealth of experience in ultrasonography.
