๐พ๐ FIREWORKS SEASON: LETโS KEEP OUR DOGS SAFE AND CALM! โค๏ธ๐พ
While fireworks can be exciting for us, they can be frightening and overwhelming for our four-legged friends. The loud bangs, flashing lights and unfamiliar noises can cause anxiety, panic and even lead to dogs bolting or becoming lost.
A few simple precautions can make a BIG difference! ๐พ
๐ก KEEP THEM SAFE AT HOME
๐พ Walk your dog before it gets dark and fireworks begin.
๐พ Keep dogs indoors during fireworks displays, with windows and curtains closed.
๐พ Create a cosy, safe den with their favourite blankets and toys.
๐พ Put the TV or calming music on to help mask the noise.
๐พ Keep doors, windows and garden gates secure โ frightened dogs can make a sudden dash for freedom.
๐พ Never leave your dog outside alone during fireworks.
๐ฆฎ BE EXTRA CAREFUL ON WALKS
๐พ Keep your dog on a lead, even if they usually have excellent recall.
๐พ Consider a well-fitted harness alongside their collar for extra security.
๐พ Ensure their ID tag and microchip details are up to date.
๐พ Avoid walking near organised fireworks displays.
โค๏ธ HELP THEM FEEL COMFORTABLE
๐พ Stay calm and reassuring. Itโs absolutely okay to comfort your dog if theyโre frightened.
๐พ Let them hide somewhere they feel safe โ never force them to face their fears.
๐พ Offer favourite toys, treats or gentle play if theyโre receptive.
๐พ If your dog struggles badly with fireworks, speak to your vet in advance about additional support.
๐ซ PLEASE NEVER
โ Take your dog to a fireworks display.
โ Punish them for barking, trembling or hiding.
โ Force them outside when theyโre scared.
โ Assume theyโll be fine just because they were okay last year.
๐ Remember: Every dog is different. What seems like just a loud bang to us can feel terrifying to them.
Letโs help our dogs feel safe, loved and protected this fireworks season. โค๏ธ
