Last week of term Foundation Fgd Saturday group 1.

I am on a project.
Here goes....
Project Summer 2027
I am doing what I normally do which is research around the project.
So here goes and I havnt finished the research yet.
Concern: Dogs travelling in the boot area of the car could get in trouble from heat.
Guardian may not see as in the front driving.

Thoughts and actions:
✅️ Make environment as cool as possible. Add fans and cool blankets and water bowl.
Action: ready and in place
Issue:
😟 Temperature is not monitored at back
😒 Can't see the dog
Action: what's the solution.
A possible one, baby alarm system and monitor.
✅️ Ordered

The project ....

We seem to be getting hotter summers now and also warmer autumn's.

Baby alarm and monitor is arriving wednesday - so will start fiddling with it and let you know how we get on.

Now there is another rabbit hole that I am going down.
Trying to understand the delta gap where dogs acclimatise to the change in weather.
How to support them and how to monitor?
So far it seems that there could be
📆A 10 day acclimatisation period
🌡A window of temperature between cool and hotter/colder that builds the dogs tolerance by experiencing it.
🧥Heat reflecting dog coats- reading about but sitting well.on the fence here so will watch and wait for research reports..Risky worries as potentially could have a heat trap between coat and fur.Lets be honest the fur is there for a reason of protection. Can't see the benefit in the car.🤔
🤒Some of our colleagues abroad regularly monitor internal dogs temperature with thermometer readings.However,I am at present using visual monitoring - not sure my family would like the thermometer and bottom approach. So good old observation..
To be honest I also am very conservative on travel and car use in heat so hoping that not needed unless emergency.

So folks do share your ideas and thoughts as that way we can all support our dogs as best we can.Baby monitor use update to follow.
Ps Not a WiFi baby monitor model being used as we want for travel in car and dont want dipping in and out monitoring which generally happens with WiFi.

Thoughts about holidays with dogs and maybe a take away for you.

Firstly , totally wonderful we are altogether.
Before:
🥼 Find out where local vets are
🐕Dog stuff - Then there is the dog list created beforehand and must include toys and fish 4 dogs whoppers.Orherwise we would have to go back home for them !!
🚗The journey- the car is set up with fans, water bowls and cool blankets.Yup they get hot quick our guys.
🚑First Aid kit packed including honey, electrolyte fluid and Leucillin
🗺 The route- Choose dog friendly services for a break.Magor services - dog friendly heading into Wales. Other dog friendly services please share.
📖 Routine - the journey throws any routine.1 of our canine family does need part of their routine so we build that in as best we can eg have a dental chew mid morning journey.
Then:
🛬Arrival - dogs out for a wee etc first. Then for them to settle in either the car whilst unpacking or in the property/ place whilst unpacking.It always depends on the set up.This time, one of the humans had dogs in property whilst second human unpacked.
Decompression after a long journey inportant to plan in- Day 2 is rest day.The approach described here isnt relevant for all dog families. However works for ours. They get tired from travelling, new experiences and stimulus. Bombarded with smells.
So day 1, is rest and sleeps.
Allowing space for all. Our boy when tired sends out give me space messages to the girls, our girls needing lots of reassurance in their different ways. Always happy to support. Sylvie lots of cuddles and Orla beside us.

Holidays with our canine family members are the most wonderful experiences but I honestly do feel need careful thought. To make it the best experience for 2 and 4 legs.
So leaving you with this final thought " is that while you know you are on holiday, your dog doesn't have a human-like concept of what a holiday is. To make the absolute best of your family holibobs , think of a shift from "bringing your dog(s) on your holiday" to "planning a holiday for your the family" Then relaxing for all 😀

Just saying ....ohhhh bother.
Ticks are out and about.
We have found 2 today !!!!
I know they are around year round, but for some reason brain went off duty and I didn't spray the dogs today with their tick prevention spray.
Brawdie and Sylvie have long floofy fluffs, Orla at present very smooth coated.Floofs are short.

Every. Single. Night.
“Bedtime biscuits please ?”

Ours have established that bedtime biscuits are now a non-negotiable part of the evening routine. 😂
I know how we have done it but honestly sometimes I do wonder who the teacher is.... in our family !
