Our goal is very simple to try and make it as easy as possible for all our lovely clients to get access to what they need!

☀️🐴 Sunburn in Horses – What to Watch For 🐴☀️

Did you know horses can get sunburn just like we can? It’s especially common in horses with pink skin or light-coloured areas, such as white noses or markings.
Signs of sunburn include:
🔸 Red, sore or flaky skin
🔸 Swelling or sensitivity to touch
🔸 Crusting or peeling, particularly on the nose

Top tips from the Severn Edge Equine team to help prevent sunburn:
✅ Apply horse-safe sun cream to vulnerable areas (noses, around eyes, and white markings)
✅ Provide shade in the field or stable access during peak sunlight hours
✅ Use fly masks with nose covers for extra protection
✅ Avoid turnout during the hottest part of the day if your horse is at higher risk
Keeping a close eye on your horse’s skin during sunny spells can make a big difference to their comfort ☀️

☀️🐴 Keeping Horses Safe in the Heat 🐴☀️

With the warmer weather here, it’s important to take a few extra steps to keep your horses happy, healthy, and comfortable in the heat.
Here are our top tips:
✅ Provide plenty of fresh, clean water at all times – hydration is key!
✅ Offer shade or shelter so they can escape direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day
✅ Turn out early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler
✅ Avoid strenuous exercise in peak heat – opt for gentler work or rest days
✅ Keep an eye out for signs of heat stress, such as excessive sweating, lethargy, or increased breathing
✅ Consider hosing down or sponging off to help regulate body temperature
