Today the world said goodbye to Bailey, a dog I’ve had the privilege of visiting twice a week for a long time now. He was never a walker — our time together was always spent at home, sitting with him, playing gently, just keeping him company. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the family who loved him.
There’s a particular kind of love that happens with dogs, and it doesn’t need a lead or a walk to be real. Sometimes it’s just showing up, sitting beside them, letting them know you’re there. That’s what our time with Bailey was, every single visit, and he gave me the same warmth and joy in return, right up until the end.
When you spend time visiting a dog — watching him settle into your company, greeting you the same way every time, finding joy in the small, quiet moments — you become part of his world. And when he’s gone, the grief is real. It’s not “just a dog.” It’s many moments of trust and companionship, built without ever needing a single walk.
To Bailey’s family — thank you for letting me be part of his life, right to the very end. He was loved every single day.
Rest well, Bailey. 🐾
