We’ve had quite a few baby birds brought into us this week! 🐦

We absolutely appreciate that people are trying to help, and it’s lovely to see how much everyone cares about our local wildlife.

However, in many cases, baby birds are best left where they are found. Young birds often leave the nest before they can fly properly and spend time on the ground while their parents are nearby, feeding them and keeping watch.

If you come across a baby bird, please take a moment to check the guidance below before picking it up.

This male Jack Russel Terrier type dog was found straying in by the SPA in Brackla. He is bright and well.
We have been unable If he is yours please ring our Bridgend hospital on 01656 653918, proof of ownership may be required. He is currently in the care of our lovely nursing team, if we are unable to locate his owner he will be passed to the dog warden tomorrow.

⚠️ Extreme Heat Warning for Pet Owners ☀️🐾

With temperatures soaring over the coming days please avoid travelling with your animals unless it is absolutely necessary.

🐶🐱 If your pet has a routine veterinary appointment, please consider rearranging it for a cooler day where possible.

🚗 Only travel if it is urgent or essential. If you must travel with your pet:

✅ Use air conditioning throughout the journey
✅ Ensure fresh water is available
✅ Travel during the coolest parts of the day
✅ Never leave animals unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes
✅ Watch for signs of heat stress, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or collapse

Extreme heat can be dangerous and even life-threatening for animals. Keeping them cool and avoiding unnecessary journeys can help protect their health and welfare.

This female bichon type dog was found straying in Kenfig Hill.

She is chipped but this is not registered.

Please call us prior to 9am if she is yours otherwise she will transfer into the care of the dog warden.

🐰Happy Rabbit Awareness Week! 🐰

Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) runs from 22nd–26th June 2026, marking its 20th anniversary.

This year the campaign focuses on the theme "Feeding Bunnies Better," championing fibre-first nutrition.

To help show the importance of nutrition, we have Dottie pictured here.

Dottie was in to be neutered and as part of our anaesthetic plan, rabbits are fed immediately after recovery to help prevent gut stasis - a life threatening problem in rabbits. 💉

Our nursing team made sure Dottie got syringe fed high fibre nutrition and was passing proper poops before going home.

Dottie gave us all a giggle because he was actually in to be castrated. He was named prior to finding out he was a boy!

☀️🐾 Keeping Your Pets Cool This Week 🐾☀️

The warmer weather is lovely, but it can be challenging for our furry friends. Here are some simple ways to help keep them safe, happy, and comfortable during the heat:

💧 Always provide plenty of fresh, clean water

🌳 Make sure pets have access to shade and cool resting spots

🚶 Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower

🧊 Offer cooling mats, frozen treats, or a damp towel to lie on

🚗 Never leave pets in a parked car, even for a few minutes

🐾 Check pavements before walks – if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws

Remember, it’s not just dogs that can struggle in hot weather. Cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small pets also need help staying cool and comfortable.

⚠️ Watch for signs of overheating, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, weakness, or difficulty breathing. If you’re concerned about your pet, contact your vet for advice.

📞 If you feel it is too hot for your pet to travel to their appointment, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We will be happy to rearrange your appointment for a cooler time.

Due to an ongoing incident, the roads around our Pontyclun branch are currently closed, and access to our car park is unavailable.
