š¾ Does your dog really need to make friends with every dog they meet?
One of the biggest misconceptions I see with reactive dogs is that the ultimate goal should be to get them to socialise happily with other dogs.
But the truth is, not every dog wants to be sociable. And thatās absolutely fine!
For some dogs, success isnāt playing with other dogs or being able to say hello. Itās being able to see another dog, remain calm and carry on enjoying their walk.
I think we sometimes put so much focus on achieving the end result we want that we forget to consider what our dog actually needs.
Your dog doesnāt have to love other dogs to have a happy, fulfilling life.
Learning to feel comfortable around them, disengage and carry on with their day is a fantastic achievement in itself.
Letās change the goal from making friends to building confidence, calmness and choice.
What does success look like for your dog? Iād love to hear in the comments. š
