We’ve been hard at work making some exciting upgrades to our exotic animal area… and one of our cheeky residents decided they wanted to help too! 😂

While our team has been busy renovating enclosures and improving facilities, this cutie took it upon themselves to carry out their own “inspection” of the work 🦝🔨

If you’ve ever had the chance to meet a raccoon, you’ll know that curiosity is their full-time job. Intelligent, inquisitive and always looking for their next adventure, they’re experts at turning even the simplest task into a challenge!

We can’t wait to show you all the improvements we’ve been working on over the coming weeks 💙

Thor has officially given his seal of approval! 🐐

We think Monster enjoyed his breakfast this morning... just look at that face! 🥹

Monster is the tiniest pony at the sanctuary, and while he's still full of character, at 32 years old, his age has caught up with his teeth a little. He doesn't have many left these days, so his meals need to be nice and sloppy to make them easier for him to eat.

Judging by the evidence left all over his face, we'd say breakfast was a big success 😂

Growing old is a privilege not every animal gets to experience, and we're so grateful that sweet old souls like Monster get to spend their golden years surrounded by love, care, and plenty of tasty meals 💙

Betha has called Hopefield home for over 10 years after her owner had to move premises and was unable to take her with him 🐍

At around 7ft long, Betha is a great example of why it's so important to thoroughly research any animal before bringing them home. Many people don't realise the sheer size boa constrictors can reach, nor the specialist care they require throughout their lives. These snakes can live for 20-30 years or more, need large, purpose-built enclosures, specific heating and lighting requirements, and can become a significant long-term commitment.

Sadly, reptiles are often bought when they're young and relatively small, without people fully understanding what they'll need in the years ahead. As a result, rescue centres across the country continue to see exotic animals needing new homes when owners can no longer care for them.

Betha is one of the lucky ones. Today, she enjoys a safe and secure home here at the sanctuary, where she’s given all the care she needs ❤️

Can you believe it’s been 3 years since Arlo and Oakley arrived at Hopefield? 🥹

These handsome Jersey boys were just 6 months old when they came, after we were contacted by another sanctuary who asked if we could offer them a home. Without somewhere to go, they were sadly due to be slaughtered 💔

Fast forward 3 years, and it’s safe to say they’ve made themselves right at home! Known for their cheeky personalities and talent for finding mischief wherever they go, Arlo and Oakley certainly keep our team on their toes. But we wouldn’t have them any other way 🥰

Today, they share their paddock with Mildred, Jack, Pumpkin and Hamish, enjoying the safe, happy life that every animal deserves 💙

It might not look like much, but moments like these are what sanctuary life is all about. Good food, good friends, and not a worry in the world 🥰
