Drugs for anxiety? Or aggression..?
For the third time this week, the vet advice for my clients’ dog has been to put him on drugs. No advice, other than today was to stop walking the dog altogether (!?), other than the drugs should calm doggo down. I can’t help feeling sorry for people who go to the vet for advice, and this apparently is the ‘only option’. What the hell is this all about? Today’s doggy needed some confidence building following witnessing an attack, not drugs. She needed desensitisation, not drugs. Habituation, and an understanding of how to control emotion, not drugs. To go along with this expert advice, being told not to walk the dog? Hopefully she’ll get better.. How? Yes, there are times where these calming drugs can help, alongside therapy. Surely a referral to experienced behaviourists, who love their jobs, is at the least worth a go before medication? Medication should be the last resort, not the first port of call.

Yesterday I got to work with this wonderful guy! This 6 month old Cane Corso had developed a slight fear toward other dogs entering his space which developed into an aggressive response. As always, we discussed leadership qualities and setting boundaries for doggo, so important for all, especially Canes which can easily ‘set their own rules’ if not managed. This equally helps build relationships and confidence! Outdoors we controlled his emotions and space near other dogs, asking for a calm, positive response. He did so well! I love this type of training 🐾❤️

6 months old today! 🐾❤️

I do feel for dogs when the weather scuppers proper walks etc, but poor Hudson had his first taste of proper doggy (albeit restricted with a long line) freedom on Saturday only for it to be taken away for a week due to the heat! Not long mate and you’ll be back out running about ! 🐾❤️

What’s missing here…? Well, poor Hudson’s not on our morning out, he’s at home where he should be in this heat.. 3rd day of 6am walkies for doggy, hopefully back to a bit of normality soon! (Says Hudsy..) ❤️🐾

Until today Hudson’s training has very much been close to me (habituation etc) or in an enclosed environment, but today was his first taste of a little freedom! And recall of course.. we all loved it! (and he did sooo well!)❤️🐾
