Based in Brampton, Cumbria, The Larches Rug Wash was founded by Emma Hutchinson in 2006 and provides a high quality horse rug washing and repair service at affordable prices. The Larches Rug Wash has a wide and extensive customer base providing Washing and Repair services for Tack shops, Livery yards, Event yards, and Racing stables as well as family horses and ponies. We guarantee to provide you with a prompt, efficient, reliable and courteous service. The Larches Rug Wash team pride themselves on providing a very personal service which guarantees high quality standards throughout the process. The Larches Rug Wash has recently invested a significant sum of money updating and improving the range of machines so that they are able to ensure that all the different types of rugs and their conditions are treated appropriately. The re-proofing process is performed so that the entire rug is treated, the outer, inner wadding and lining. The frequency of re-proofing depends on the age of the rug; a re-proofing treatment should last for a season and is recommended to be done annually. Emma is herself a horse owner and breeder and therefore understands the needs and requirements of her customers and will gladly offer advice on all ‘Rug Washing & Repair’ matters.

An update on turnaround times.

Unfortunately it’s still around 3/4 weeks. The volume of rugs that have come in over the last 4 weeks have far exceeded any other year. I am washing everything in date order as they come in, this is the fairest way of doing it as everyone wants their rugs back quickly 😵‍💫.
I really do appreciate you trusting me with your rugs but sadly this has made the turnaround time longer than I would have liked.

I run this business with no staff, it’s me you speak to on the phone, I wash the rugs, check that they are dry, do all the repairs and package the rugs up. This means the business stays personal and I know every part of the process your rug goes through. If you ever have any queries or problems please do not hesitate to contact me.

I am going on a leather course on the 31st October so unfortunately I will be closed from then until the 9th November. This means I will be able to offer leather repairs as well as the rug washing and repairs.
I am working extremely hard to make sure everyone gets their rugs back before I close as unfortunately Zara pony isn’t up to the task of running the business while I’m away! I’d just like to thank you all for your patience during an extremely busy time.

It looks like autumn is well and truly here judging by the weather we are getting!

I have been inundated with rugs since I returned from holiday, unfortunately this does mean I have a turnaround time of about 3 to 4 weeks at the moment. Air drying the rugs means it does take slightly longer to dry them but it also means I can offer the 100% no shrinkage guarantee. The downside to this is the wait times at this time of year when I have a large volume of rugs coming in.

Just a reminder I will be closing on the 31st October and will not reopen until the 9th November as I am going on a bridle making course, this will give me the skills to repair tack and leather items and possibly even be able to offer handmade leather bridles and headcollars in the future. From December/January I will be offering leather repairs as well as the rug washing and repairs. The timing of the course isn’t ideal but it’s going to help the business to develop and offer more services.

Thanks again for your patience at what is an extremely stressful time of year, I’m working 7 days a week to get through the rugs and the washing machine is rarely off before midnight!

After a lovely 3 weeks over in Ireland recharging the batteries the washing machine is back on and the first few rugs are hanging outside drying in the sunshine. So it’s full systems go now until I close for a week in November for my leather course. Now’s the time to be getting your rugs sorted for winter, the nights are coming in and the mornings are getting colder! For now I’m enjoying this wonderful sunshine hanging everything outside to make them smell just that little bit fresher 😶‍🌫️

Just a reminder, I will be closing for my annual holiday this Sunday the 2nd of August and will not reopen until Monday the 24th of August.
The majority of rugs that are here will be ready before I close. If you have a rug here that you need please do message me to check that it will be done and arrange collection.
I love doing the rugs and it genuinely doesn’t feel like work but having only had 2 days off since I reopened in January this is a much needed break! Thank you for your understanding and I’ll be well ready for the autumn rush on my return!

I can’t believe we are into July already, the year is flying! Now is a good time to be sorting through your winter rugs and getting them cleaned. Despite the giant hailstones in parts of Cumbria last week I hope summer is well and truly here so you won’t be needing the heavier rugs for a little while!
Just a pre-warning I will be closing on Sunday the 2nd August and will not reopen until Monday the 24th August.
I will also be closing in October for a week to go on my leather repair course. This is not ideal timing at all as it is my busiest time but it will mean I can offer more services in the future.

With this lovely weather lots of you are starting to send your rugs in for washing. I am still trying to get everything out in about a week, although I’ve had a huge influx of rugs in for repair which has slowed things down, unfortunately I’m not quite as efficient as my washing machine! Please do ask if you need your rug back quickly as I am able to offer a 48 hour service.

Just a reminder of the guidelines for using the rug wash, it helps everything run that little bit more smoothly and means I can try and provide a service that keeps everyone happy. If you could read them before dropping your rugs off that would be great 🥰.

All rugs must be bagged with your name, contact details and whether the rug is for wash, reproof and/or repair. (This does not apply to the racing/competition yards who are on the same washing/ repair system each year)

Only clean rugs can be repaired, they don’t have to have been washed here but they must be clean before they can be repaired.

Dropping off -
Rugs can be dropped off Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm, no appointment needed. Please note I am closed on Sundays so no drop offs on Sundays. I am not always here during these hours so if you need to see me please arrange this prior to drop off, if not the garage is open for you to leave your rug.

When I contact you to let you know your rug is ready it would be extremely helpful if you could collect within 14 days.

Collecting your rugs -
Collecting clean rugs is via appointment only so please do not just turn up to collect your rugs. Appointments must be made with at least 12 hours notice. No collections are available on a Sunday.

If paying by bacs this must be cleared before your rugs leave the rug wash. Please do not arrive to collect having not sent the payment.

Any rugs left here over 3 months will be sold, don’t worry you will have plenty reminders before this occurs!

Leather isn’t something I do a lot of as some leather is too thick for my sewing machine and hand stitching isn’t something I’ve done. However some repairs can be machine stitched, this year I plan to do the training to be able to offer all leather repairs which means you’ll be able to get tack repaired as well as your rugs!

These front fastenings are really popular on rugs but if you are worried about your horse catching them on a fence or a haynet you don’t need to go the expense of altering the front straps. I can fix these Velcro straps over the fittings for £8.
