A quick reminder that the Care About Cushing’s scheme for complimentary diagnostic ACTH testing ends on 31 October, and will not resume until Spring.

If your horse is showing any signs that are consistent with PPID (equine Cushing’s disease), then please contact us to discuss whether testing is appropriate.

Eligible horses may qualify for one complimentary diagnostic ACTH test per year during the scheme’s autumn and spring awareness periods, subject to T&C's.

If your horse has used this scheme before, then these dates may not apply to you, and your voucher will be valid 1 year after the last test.

So we recently have hired a new office admin, she is not very helpful and spends most of her time lapping up attention from visitors or sleeping!! 😂😂 what a hard life for Winnie 😆

One of our patients came in from the field on Monday afternoon with a very swollen and sore 3rd eyelid ❤️‍🩹. Quite understandably the owner was very concerned and called us straight away 👍.

Magda attended promptly to evaluate the eye & eyelids 👁️. The horse was sedated in order to facilitate a thorough examination 🔍, which fortunately revealed no injury to the eye nor any foreign bodies. Phew!!

Magda then administered eye medication along with pain relief & anti-inflammatories 💊. The owner was advised to keep a fly mask on the horse until the swelling settles as this will keep it protected from the environment.

The following morning, we received the 2nd picture showing the eye looking much better! 🥳 The owner (and us too) was very relieved.

We really appreciate receiving regular updates like this 🙏. It is also a reminder that early intervention is very important, especially with things like eyes, so always contact us or send in a photo if you have any worries.

We were so pleased to see our client Emma and her girl Ruby out having fun and achieving big things together (qualifying & competing at the LeMieux National Championships!!!). How stunning do they look😍 Here are some very lovely words from them❤️❤️❤️:

"I don’t know where to start other than to say a massive thank you to Fuller Equine for they’re continued support through mine and Ruby’s journey! I’ve had Ruby since she was a slightly backed 2 year old, she’s now 17! 5 years ago Ruby was diagnosed with EMS but not from being overweight, in fact she has always struggled with weight gain! So it’s been so tricky to maintain a diet which is low in sugar but giving her what she needs to compete and keep weight on. Last summer Ruby had on/ off lameness, I tried different diets and I wasn’t getting anywhere! I just couldn’t understand what was going on….it got to the point where I had to call Fuller Equine. Alex came to assess her, we did blood test after blood test and her sugars just wasn’t coming down! We X-rayed her feet and the pedal bone had slight rotation in both feet, I really thought I’d have to make the decision no horse owner has to make. Alex advised on a tailored treatment plan and after only 3 weeks she was coming back to herself again! 6 weeks later she was back to normal, then following dietary advice and another few weeks we were back riding! 6 months later we qualified for Novice Silver Regionals at Bury Farm and came 5th with over 68% and then in August we received a wild card to Lemieux National championships 2026! Bringing home a score of over 65% with a very strong class of big moving horses! With one judge giving us 68%. The journey has been emotional but to ride at the nationals is a memory I will cherish forever. I know that for Ruby EMS is continued long term care but I look forward to the future. 🐴🙏🏻"

The dreaded word… colic.

We have noticed an increased number of various types of colic in the past month, so please pay extra attention to the early warning colic signs.
A horse that’s:
* Not interested in their breakfast/dinner
* Unusually quiet or restless
* Looking at their tummy
* Lying down more than normal
* Not passing droppings or passing less than usual

These symptoms can quickly develop and become a sign of more acute abdominal pain, like: pawing, rolling, going up and down, curling the lip and/or sweating

If you’re ever worried that your horse isn’t themselves and may have abdominal pain, then please give us a call. Colic can worsen quickly, so it’s always best to speak to a vet and be on the safe side.
