We can’t always predict when a frightening noise will happen — but we can prepare our dogs for it.
Having a safe space ready and knowing where to turn for veterinary support can help you feel more prepared when the forecast changes.

Think about your dog's routine before the first bang — from walking earlier and closing the curtains to preparing enrichment and making sure their microchip details are up to date.
And if you already know your dog finds fireworks difficult, please don’t wait until fireworks night to contact us.
Speak to us in advance so there’s time to discuss your dog and make an appropriate plan. 💜

👀 What does anxiety look like in your dog?
It isn’t always hiding or visibly shaking.
Panting when they’re not hot, repeatedly checking windows, struggling to settle or suddenly wanting to stay very close to you can all be clues that something is making them uncomfortable.
Every dog is different, which is why noticing changes in their normal behaviour can be so important.

It’s an easy assumption to make — particularly if your dog seems completely back to normal once the noise has stopped.
But anxiety can become worse if it’s left unmanaged.
So if fireworks, thunderstorms or other noises leave your dog frightened, don’t assume you simply have to wait for them to grow out of it.

Some signs are obvious, such as trembling or trying to hide. Others can be easier to dismiss — like panting, pacing, refusing food or becoming destructive.
The important thing is to notice what’s different for your dog.
If you recognise these behaviours around fireworks, thunder or other loud noises, talk to us about what you’ve noticed.
Recognising that they’re struggling is the first step from coping to calm. 💜

If you’ve noticed that fireworks, thunderstorms or other loud noises change your dog’s behaviour, tell us.
It can be helpful to explain:
🐾 What happens when they hear the noise
🐾 The first signs you notice
🐾 How long they remain unsettled
🐾 What you’ve already tried at home
That information can help your veterinary team understand what your dog is experiencing and discuss an appropriate plan with you.

🎆⛈️ Does your dog struggle with fireworks, thunderstorms or other loud noises?
Fear doesn’t have to be something they simply learn to live with.
There are lots of ways we can support dogs who find noisy events difficult — and the best time to start thinking about that support is before the next noisy night.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing advice to help you recognise the signs of noise anxiety, prepare your dog and know when to ask for help.
Because fear doesn’t have to be part of the forecast. 💜
