We had a little visitor last night….

I was woken up - it felt like about 3am - to the sound of a jangling collar-disc, followed by the familiar “rubbing” noise of a Shih Tzu using the sideboard as his own personal massage table.

“Archie’s up”, I thought, and reached for the torch to check if he wanted to go out.

He didn’t. He was fast asleep on his duvet by me, as was Sophie. Nobody moving at all.

Then I remembered we’d changed both their ID discs to collar-fitted, so they make no noise at all.

I broke out in this huge smile…..

“Hi Ollie!” I said “Great to have you here!”

For clarification - yesterday was the 4th anniversary of this gorgeous little boy’s passing.

Oliver was an ex-breeding dog rescued from a puppy farm by Pets Direct, who joined our family aged 6ish in 2016. A totally gentle, quiet, kind soul, who relied completely on our Sophie Westie for safety and guidance. Humans made no sense to him at all. He was Sophie’s Dog.

He’s made his spirit presence known in this particular way just once before, on the same night he passed. Same noises, and Soph dead to the world. Then he was letting us know he was safe and fine. Such a special boy.

But last night…. Last night, I feel he was here for Sophie. She’s nearly 17 now, and has some stuff going on. So he’s offering some brotherly support. Thank you, Ollie.🙏🐾💚

And I also feel he wants me to tell people that he came.

In my work, I meet so many people who have had experiences like this after their beloved animals have passed, but they’re not sure if it’s real, or if it’s just grief playing tricks on their brain.

I know this. I can’t prove it, of course, but I know. It’s not your brain playing tricks. It’s real. And it’s them, just bringing their love and support.

18th August is so very special to me, for so many reasons….

1. The day in 2000 that my precious Tilly and Sally came home, and totally transformed everything I thought I knew about dogs

2. The day in 2005 that Elaine and I got together, after I invited her to Tilly and Sally’s birthday party. (I cannot pretend there was no ulterior motive!)

3. The day in 2012 that we had our Civil Partnership - OMG what a day and what a party that was! Even though our wonderful and way-out Celebrant forgot to turn his phone off for the ceremony! Everyone just cracked up! 😂😂

4. And the day in 2025 that we converted our Civil Partnership to marriage - the registrar’s phone stayed silent! Followed by a Sweet and Savoury Afternoon Tea with bubbles - it was a Monday, and we were the only people in the place! We never stopped laughing…. And we’re still laughing, even though often maybe we shouldn’t… but that’s us….

And two more “special” reasons, certainly not laughing for these…. But the date is even more significant because we didn’t choose it….

5. 2002 - the anniversary of Elaine’s Dad’ passing, before I had even met her.

6. 2022 - the anniversary of our sweet little Oliver’s passing. Such a gentle, beautiful boy, he never had a bad word to say to anyone, especially his “Sis”, Sophie who never allowed him to put even a paw out of place. He adored her. And he chose this date - we felt it should have been sooner, but he did one of those amazing “rallies” that people and animals sometimes do, even managing a last ride in his “bus” to his favourite park, before lying down for the final time. But he’s still around us. We love you, Ollie! ❤️🐾🌈

Today will be a quiet celebration for us. But we have so many memories, and so many wonderful friends, family, and animals who are both. And we will end the day laughing….😀

Just so, so grateful for all of it. And especially to Elaine - my wife, my best friend and the love of my life.

Those people, back in 2005, who said we’d never last 6 weeks, got it a bit wrong, didn’t they?? By 21 years and counting!!

There will never be another Tilly! Not like this one. ❤️🐾💚⭐️❤️

I just joined Substack, as a kick-up-the-backside to myself to write the book that's been bubbling for many more years than it should have been!

And I've found some incredible writers, open-hearted people who are just being themselves rather than following an algorithm or whatever else social media demands of us these days.

And continuing the theme of updating, meet the Training Directors!

I think all of you probably know Sophie Westie, the Queen of Hearts - 16 now and taking life easier, but definitely not retired from communicating 😊💚

But you may not know Archie (Shih Tzu) - he’s 10, been a family member for 2 years, and is now stepping into his teaching role in his own unique way! He is also, very definitely, teaching us - about throwing any rule book away apart from the Unconditional Kindness one, and that the only predictable factor he brings to Life is his unpredictability! Love this boy 💚🐾

Thank you so much everyone, for your reactions and lovely comments about our new Cover and Profile pic! I love them too!

I also want to especially thank all of you wonderful people who have supported me and recommended my work during our time of Internet Silence, and those who have found me through these recommendations and by other mysterious non-coincidental ways! I’m truly grateful to you all

The new images reflect a shift that actually happened some time ago, but (being me!) the publicity always comes last!

A new website is coming really soon - but just for now, a very quick update of where we’re at….

I now do all our Intuitive Communications, which have now expanded to include 1-1 heart-to hearts and Family get-togethers or explorations/mediations around difficult situations. Follow-ups and check-ins are available for existing clients.

Elaine and I still share teaching our Animal Communication courses. These include First Steps - Awakening Your Connections; Practice Makes Progress; and Advanced - Flying High, Running Deep.

I also create individually tailored packages of communication and support around End of Life and Beyond journeys, which I feel so very privileged to be part of. Our Paws Before the Bridge course is a two day experience dedicated to preparing you for the end of your animal’s life, and supporting you to walk that precious journey alongside them and keep your connection alive after their transition, with minimum stress, and maximum calm and peace.
