Our much loved Mindfulness Garden taster session and 8-week course is taking place at Horton Community Farm in September.

The taster session is Thursday the 10th of September, 1pm-3pm.

The course is open to anyone over 50, and carers of any age. We ask people to come to the taster session first to see if the course is a good fit for them.

Booking is essential, so please fill in this form if you would like to attend, and we’ll be in touch: https://app.upshot.org.uk/signup/0592ce10/793afd3edead2e45/

**Please note you may not receive a response between Wed 26th of August and Mon 7th of Sep, but whoever signs up will be prioritised and contacted on a first come first served basis. Your place on the course will be confirmed after the taster.**

The course will particularly benefit you if you are struggling with your mental or physical health, experiencing chronic pain, if you’re feeling stressed, isolated, or simply need a break. πŸ’š

The Mindfulness Garden explores breathworks meditation, nature connection and gardening; offering people the chance to connect, learn new skills, and cultivate self-compassion and self-care.

Autumn is a great time of year to attend, as the site is brimming with bright nutritious produce; tempting tomatoes, plentiful pumpkins, delicious aubergines, okra, and more besides! πŸ₯¦πŸ…πŸπŸ«œ

We look forward to welcoming you. 🌱

Record numbers of volunteers have enjoyed the exceptional weather this summer to make a huge difference at Horton Community Farm. A couple of times the heat was excessive but working earlier in the day meant we avoided the worst of it.

Highlights have included cutting a new path, developing the willow dome, relaxing in the shade with refreshments, and harvesting a huge range of fruit and veg (including squash, courgettes, cauliflower, salads, chillies, aubergines, blackberries & plums). We also have melons forming so look out for those if you pop by!

Huge thanks to everyone who has contributed.

Fancy hanging out and pitching in? Head to our website to register https://hcf.org.uk/volunteering/ Travel expenses provided, take a share of the harvest and meet a good bunch of people!

We're grateful as always to our funders The National Lottery Community Fund for our Friday food growing group and npower Business Solutions Foundation for our Wednesday conservation group.

Horton Community Farm volunteers are the best! Massive thanks for all the effort poured into improving the site for nature and food growing.

We've packed our raised beds with salads and veg, tamed overgrown areas including tree stumps growing back and overhead branches, and kept the paths, lawns and hedges super neat.

Loads of free outdoors fun at the farm every Monday for your 0-5s and siblings. We'll be growing food, making crafts, digging in the sand pit, baking 'pies' in our mud kitchen, and generally running wild! On hot days kids can paddle, splash about and cool off in the paddling pool so swimming costumes are recommended. Activities under cover if it's raining.

If your 0-5 year old isn't already registered or to find out more go to https://hcf.org.uk/growingtogether/ Once registered, just drop in for some fun!

Opposite 91 Cecil Avenue, Great Horton, Bradford
Mondays 10-12 or 1-3pm

Travel expenses reimbursed with ticket.

In partnership with Grow to school

We are overjoyed to announce that our inclusive volunteer programme has received a huge boost with a grant of Β£20,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund Awards for All programme.

This will extend our very popular volunteer programme by funding 'Food Growing Fridays' until the end of March. A wide range of people are helping to care for our food growing areas, boosting local food whilst learning new skills, getting outdoors and meeting new people! We have a fantastic bunch of folk volunteering at the moment. Whatever your ability or background we hope you can join us. Visit our website to register. https://hcf.org.uk/volunteering/

The site has already begun reaping the benefits with record numbers of volunteers turning out every week and achieving a great deal. This has included topping up beds with a massive delivery of specially formulated veggie soil, sowing loads of seeds and planting loads of seedlings, netting raised beds to protect from birds and wood-chipping paths using some convenient waste woodchip from council tree surgery. A massive thanks to all our volunteers for chipping in (pun intended!) and thanks to Awards for All for making it possible.
