Given that cases of Equine Influenza are on the rise (with 2 outbreaks in Wiltshire) it is important you ensure your horse has been adequately vaccinated against EI. Yard owners should carefully consider the logistics of horses moving onto yards and implement quarantine for new arrivals (ideally new horses should be placed in a separate area for 2 weeks and monitored for signs of infection before introduction to the main yard). Ensure all horses currently on the yard or arriving are vaccinated against flu. The data shows a higher percentage of outbreaks were in unvaccinated horses. Flu is highly contagious and and an outbreak will mean the yard has to be shut down with no movement on or off it. Be vigilant!!
