The Black Bucket and Plexiglass Trap
If you have access to scrap lumber and a larger budget, you can build a highly durable model that catches hundreds of flies.
What you need:2x4 Lumber and a piece of bent plexiglass or transparent plastic/ or just electric fence post
Utility tub or 5-gallon bucket painted entirely black
Water and dish soap
How to build it:
Build the Frame: Construct a pyramid or V-shaped frame using the 2x4s and wrap the bottom portion with your transparent netting or plexiglass panels.Add the Bucket: Place the black tub filled with soapy water at the base. How It Works: Flies are attracted to the black tub's heat and dark color. When they attempt to bite the trap and fly upward into the clear plexiglass, they slide down into the soapy water.

Placement and Tips
To maximize the effectiveness of your DIY horse fly trap, keep these rules in mind:Location: Place traps in sunny, open areas near the edge of pastures or near wooded borders where flies breed. Do not place them directly in your seating area or patio.Height: Hang the trap so the swinging ball is roughly 1 to 1.8 m (about 3 to 6 feet) off the ground, which is the natural flying height of a horse fly.Maintenance: Regularly empty the dead flies from your jug traps to maintain optimal space for catching more. Add fresh soapy water weekly.

Why it’s so so important to listen to your horses needs here’s my horse telling me by tail swishing and then when I leaned on him by going gently steps away- that this side mounting isn’t working as of yet for him / so I stopped and gave him a shower and a massage 🥰

am so so happy how we turned out 🥰it really makes a difference to keep it plain and simple and have patience 🥰
