⚠️Foxtails / Grass Seed⚠️

Everybody’s talking about the heat at the mo (very important to manage, of course) but these things are everywhere!!

I’ve read about an increase in dogs being treated for grass seed infections…
So what are they? 🤔

Foxtail plants are grass-like weeds with sharp seeds. Tiny hair-like structures (awns) on each foxtail seed make it easy for them to attach to our dogs. They can embed themselves into the skin and infect.

Things you can do to help! 🐶

🐾 Keep your dog out of overgrown grassy areas
🐾 After a walk check your dogs over incl in between paws
🐾 If you notice a foxtail on your dog, gently pull them out. If you can’t remove them, go to the vets.

Hope this helps! 🐾

Great read!

Great read!

🩵 A second chance for puppy, Chief.

After being found abandoned and handed in to a rescue shelter by a local dog warden, this German Shepherd x Malinois cross needed a home.

During a meeting with the rescue charity our Chief Inspector spotted him… and something about this little lad stood out.

After a quick enquiry, our Dog Support Unit gave him an assessment to see if he had the makings of a working dog.

We’re delighted to say… he passed his first tests with flying colours.

When it came to choosing a name, the team didn’t have to think too hard. In recognition of the Chief Inspector who gave him this second chance, they named him Chief.

Chief is now settled in with one of our experienced handlers, starting lots of environmental training, building his confidence, and learning brand new skills every day.

From stray pup to squad recruit, not bad for 18 weeks old.

🐶 Stay tuned for pupdates on Chief’s progress.
