The last few months have been very tough for me personally but also my family. I am grateful to colleagues for giving me the space to make a strong recovery and get back to normal. A huge part of my life is being a vet and helping animals with orthopaedic care. Vetfix has been operational for over 10 years and I am looking forward to getting back on the road. This would not be possible without all the extra effort has put in to keep the service running. Thanks also to and Jane Oatley for the cover.

Huge congratulations to the brilliant Emma Newbery! 🎉

Emma has recently passed her Surgical Nursing Certificate, adding to her Diploma in Small Animal Physiotherapy — a fantastic achievement that reflects her continued dedication to excellence in veterinary care.

Emma has been a valued member of the VetFix team for nearly ten years, and her expanding expertise is a real asset to the service we provide. We’re incredibly proud of her — and grateful to have such a committed, skilled colleague.

Well done, Emma — we learn and grow together! 👏🐾

It has been almost a year since Barney Dean joined us at VetFix. We have received fantastic feedback from host clinics and he has made such a positive impact on our team. Barney is an EBVS® European Specialist and RCVS-Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. He was born and raised in Bournemouth, and currently lives in Fordingbridge with his wife, daughter, and two cats. Attached are just a few of the recent cases Barney has helped with. Barney expands our service to now include soft tissue surgical cases and all orthopaedic procedures.

Spaniels and elbows! Always consider a CT scan for any protracted lameness with elbow pain especially Spaniel and French Bulldog breeds. Thanks so much to Leo's owner for the updates and of course Leo for being so patient with his recovery. So pleased to recieve the video yesterday! Leo came to our team with a fractured left elbow secondary to a humeral condylar fissure. This was repaired and a prophylactic transcondylar screw was also placed in the right elbow. Handsome boy! Thanks to the VetFix team and Lynwood Vets, Bournemouth.

We have recently invested in Fusion Implants LEAP and FLIP plating systems. The lateral epicondylar anatomic plate (LEAP) has already proved useful for Spaniel and French Bulldog condylar fractures. For our feline friends the FLIP plates will improve our expertise in cat pelvic fracture treatments. Attached are post-operative radiographs from Mac, a five-year old Cocker Spaniel with a lateral condylar fracture. The short LEAP plate was still useful despite being primarily designed for Springer Spaniels. We found it saved us time and was easy to apply!

A few places left to come join us tomorrow night at the Brewhouse in Southbourne, Bournemouth. I am excited to hear from my good friend Professor Tom Maddox with an imaging perspective on canine hip dysplasia. Thanks also in advance to Emma Newbury for top tips on radiographic techniques and positioning! Looks like it will be a really good turnout!!

We had an exciting day here at Dumbledore Vets yesterday, welcoming the team from VetFix into the practice for the very first time - one of our lovely patients recently ruptured her cruciate ligament and hopped in to see Katy a week or so ago feeling somewhat sorry for herself.
Andy and Emma visited us today and did a fantastic job of repairing poor Nellie’s knee surgically, assisted by our own super nursing team … we are delighted to be able to offer this exciting in-house referral service - VetFix are a local team who will continue to support us with orthopaedic emergencies and routine procedures.
This enables us to offer your pets orthopaedic services in the comfort of our familiar Dumbledore Vets environment, whilst still being cared for by our fantastic team, who many of you now know so well!
