✍️ THE CHAIRMAN'S CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION 2026 ✍️

Do you enjoy writing stories or poetry?

As part of the 111th Aldborough & Boroughbridge Agricultural Show, we're inviting writers of all ages to enter our Chairman's Creative Writing Competition.

📖 Theme: The Countryside Through My Eyes

Whether you're inspired by farming, wildlife, village life, country traditions, family memories, or simply the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside, we'd love to read your work.

You can enter:
✒️ A Story
✒️ A Poem

🏆 Two Age Categories
👦 Young Writers (17 years and under)
👩 Adult Writers (18 years and over)

💷 Prizes in each category:
🥇 1st Prize £25
🥈 2nd Prize £10

⭐ Winning entries will be published in the Official Show Programme 2026, sold on Show Day.

Aldborough & Boroughbridge Show, Sun 27th July, Newby Hall, HG4 5AE. 46 classes, 9am. In Hand & Ridden - Coloureds, M&M, Veterans, Ridden - RoR Amateur Ridden Qualifier, Hunters, Cobs, Riding Horse, Young Rider’s Horse, Equifest Retrained Racehorse, Equitation, Novice’s Walk & Trot Ponies/Horses, Turnout Plaited/Natural, PC/RC, Lead Rein, First Ridden, Junior M&M, In Hand - RoR In Hand Qualifier, 8 x Shetlands, Condition In Hand, Young Handlers, Open Youngstock, Open Adult, Bonny Pony, Handsome Horse, Donkeys & Driving classes in main show area. Qualifiers for Equifest, RoR, DBS, SPS-BS, BDS. Prize money, trophies, lovely rosettes. Supreme Champion Garland !! Entries on the day are £10, but enter NOW for ONLY £8 per class and save money !!! The small show with the big personality in its 107th year and held at Newby Hall outside Ripon. A fun day out for all the family. This years show date is the 24 July 2022.
