So true. ICMG certification and a lifetime being brought up with dogs definitely helps my understanding of these gorgeous souls 🐶 ❤️
⚠️⚠️ SHOULD GROOMERS TRAIN IN BEHAVIOUR? ⚠️⚠️
Dog grooming is never just about clipping and styling — it’s about understanding the dog in front of you. Every groom starts with how we approach, handle, and build trust, and that means having knowledge in canine behaviour, learning theory, and communication signals. 🐾
Dogs are constantly giving us signals, and being able to recognise them can transform the way we work. When we miss those signals, we put ourselves at risk, increase stress for the dog, and make the grooming process far more challenging.
Think about it — we’re working with sharp scissors, buzzing clippers, and tools around sensitive areas of a dog’s body. If a dog is anxious, fearful, or over threshold, things can quickly escalate. That’s why knowing when to pause, step back, and give the dog (and ourselves) a breather is just as important as the technical groom itself.
At ICMG UK, safety always comes first. By learning about behaviour alongside grooming skills, you’ll not only create a calmer experience for the dog but also protect yourself and set the foundation for a successful, stress-free career. ✂️🐶💡
Because great grooming starts with great understanding. 💕
