🎆🐾 Fireworks Night is just around the corner! ❤️🐶

For some of our dogs, fireworks can be a really worrying time, so a little preparation can make a big difference in helping them feel safe and secure ❤️

We've shared this helpful advice from ADAPTIL to give you a few ideas on how to prepare your four-legged friends and make the evening a little less stressful for them

Every dog is different, so think about what works best for your own dog, plan ahead where you can, and remember that a little extra comfort and reassurance can go a long way 🐾🥰

🐶❤️ A little look at our lovely puppy class! 🐾

How cute are these little faces?! 🥰 It’s always such a pleasure watching our puppies grow in confidence, learn new skills and start building that special bond with their humans!

There’s so much to learn when you’re a little pup, and we’re so proud of all the puppies and their owners for the effort they put in each week! From those first little steps to seeing things start to click, it’s wonderful to watch their progress ❤️

Of course, puppy training isn’t always easy (especially when there are so many exciting things to see and sniff! 😂) but with patience, consistency and plenty of praise, those little steps soon add up

A big well done to all our lovely puppy families keep up the great work and most importantly, enjoy every moment of learning together 💕🐕

🐾 Training Tips with Sami : The Down Stay! 🐾

A big thank you to our lovely committee member Sami, who has kindly taken the time to create this video showing how she has taught her own dogs the Down Stay exercise for the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme awards. ❤️🐶

We know practising at home can sometimes feel a little tricky, so we hope this video will be a helpful resource for you and your four-legged friends! Sami shares many of the techniques we recommend in class, along with a few extra tips to help you prepare for your end-of-term tests with confidence.

Remember, every dog learns at their own pace, so keep sessions fun, be patient, and celebrate those little wins along the way! 🐾👏

Dog treats can be expensive!
They are often full of rubbish too!

If you are looking for a tasty, highly motivating treat reward for your dog training then we absolutely recommend this:

Simple liver cake recipe for dogs! - it sounds gross but its totally yummy to dogs and feels just like cake to us humans when handling it .. its not slimy and no strong smell we promise 😅

Ingredients

• 500g (1lb) pig, lamb, ox, or chicken liver
• 450g self-raising flour or wholemeal flour (or grain free if your dog is sensitive)
• 2 to 3 large eggs
• A splash of milk (lactose-free, goats' milk, or dog milk preferred) or water

Instructions

1. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 180°C (160°C fan / Gas Mark 4) and grease or line a baking tray or cake tin.
2. Blend the liver: Place the raw liver and eggs into a food processor or blender and blitz until smooth and liquid (similar to a smoothie).
3. Add liquid and flour: Whisk in the splash of milk or water, then slowly mix in the flour until it forms a thick, sticky sponge-like batter.
4. Bake: Pour the mixture evenly into your prepared tin. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes until firm to the touch or a skewer comes out clean.
5. Cool and cut: Allow the cake to cool completely, then slice it into small, bite-sized training cubes.
6. Store: Keep in the fridge for 2–3 days in an airtight container, or portion and freeze what you do not need immediately.

🌟TOP TIP - freeze in portions in individual freezer bags so it's easy to grab and go for training when you need it!
It doesn't take too long to defrost either but do make sure it is thoroughly defrosted of course!

Bronze class is suitable for puppies that have already passed the puppy foundation class AND total beginners from 6 months old and above - its never too late to start and is great bonding, sensible socialising and fun.. even for your already well behaved dog!

Huge thanks to our bronze class handlers this term that allowed me to create this short film as they performed brilliantly alongside the stars of the show - their dogs! 🐾🌟

🎓🐾 PUPS GO BACK TO SCHOOL TOO! 🐾🎓

Classes are starting again this week, so here’s a little throwback to Oakley passing his Bronze test last term!🥉🐶 He’ll be moving on up to Silver this term, and we can’t wait to see how he gets on! ⭐

But while we’re celebrating Oakley’s achievement, here’s your little reminder that every dog learns differently, and every dog progresses at their own pace ❤️

Some pups will fly through an exercise, while others might need a little more time, more repetition or a completely different approach. And that’s OK!

🐾 Don’t compare your dog’s progress to anyone else’s

🐾 Celebrate the tiny wins.. they all count!

🐾 If something isn’t working, try breaking it down into smaller steps

🐾 Keep training sessions short, positive and fun.. use tasty food or a favourite toy to motivate!

🐾 Don’t be afraid to ask your trainer for help or ideas

🐾 And most importantly… don’t give up! 💪

That thing your dog struggled with last week might suddenly click next week. Sometimes progress is two steps (or paws) forward, one step back.. and sometimes it’s just managing to pay attention when there’s another dog nearby! 😂

Every dog has their own journey. Enjoy the ride, celebrate the wins and be proud of how far your pup has come 🐶❤️

Our annual charity event is coming up at the end of November, and we’re looking for a few raffle prizes to help us raise as much as we can for Ability Dogs 4 Young People IoW ❤️

As this is a club event for our members, families and four-legged friends, we’re hoping our lovely club community might be able to help! 🐶
