Join The Hugs Foundation as a Trustee! 🐴

We're looking for passionate, skilled individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help shape the future of animal welfare and human well-being at Hugs, which will celebrate 10 years in 2027. Our Trustees and Senior Leadership Team are on the start line of preparing a new Strategic Plan. This means you will help guide our next phase of growth and delivery.

We’re particularly looking for people with experience in Equine Welfare, Finance, Legal, HR or Fundraising who can share their knowledge, offer strategic guidance and help us continue transforming lives through the power of rescued animals, nature and compassionate support. In return, you’ll become part of an incredible team making a real difference to both animals and people. It’s a voluntary role, but one that can be incredibly rewarding! 🥰

Ideally new Trustees will be able to fulfil at least some of the following qualities:

✅ Essential

Above all, be committed and enthusiastic individuals, willing to support our ways of working through our charity values of Kindness, Dignity and Respect.

To have a good all round business acumen from their career experience.

To be committed to excellence in Charity Governance and have competent understanding of the Duties of a Trustee. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-essential-trustee-what-you-need-to-know-what-you-need-to-do-cc3/the-essential-trustee-what-you-need-to-know-what-you-need-to-do

Be willing to bring fresh perspectives to the Board, challenge constructively and kindly and decide diligently.

Be willing to assist in identifying new funding opportunities, developing partnerships, raising the profile of the charity and helping to support the charity’s strategic ambitions.

Have experience in an area of either Equine Welfare, Legal, Finance, HR or Fundraising.

💚 Desirable

To have previous/recent trustee experience with 3 years’ service or more, although Hugs will provide/arrange full training for Trustees who are new to this role.

To have familiarity with the Charities SORP.

Where necessary, be willing to learn aspects of safeguarding such that trustees have oversight of services which are safe, trauma-informed and person-centred.

If you’re ready to give back and bring your skills to a cause that matters, we’d love to hear from you!

📩 Please send your CV with a covering letter to tell us why you'd like to join our Board and the skills or experience you can bring to [email protected] 🙌. The closing date for applications is 30th November 2026 but the post may close sooner if a suitable candidate is found. If you would like an informal chat about becoming a Trustee for Hugs, please let us know in your covering letter.

Please share with someone who might be perfect for the role!

💚 World Mental Health Day 2026 💚

Today, on 10th October, we join people across the world in recognising the importance of mental health and wellbeing.

We understand that life can be challenging, and no one should have to face those challenges alone. Every day, we work to create a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment where people can connect, build confidence, develop skills, and improve their overall wellbeing.

Mental health matters just as much as physical health. Whether you're having a good day, a difficult day, or somewhere in between, remember that it's okay to ask for help, take a break, and prioritise yourself.

Let's continue to be kind, check in on one another, and create communities where everyone feels valued, supported, and heard.

💚 Together, we can make a difference.

Dentist day 🦷🪥

Today we welcomed the wonderful Emilia and Lee to Hugs to give our rescue ponies some very important dental care.

Our ponies were all absolute superstars, with 14 equines treated today! 🥰 We’re so proud of how well they all behaved and so grateful to Emilia and Lee for taking such great care of them.

Regular dental care is an important part of keeping our ponies happy, healthy and comfortable, so these visits are a really important part of their care here at Hugs. 💚

A huge thank you to Emilia & Lee for looking after our Hugs gang so brilliantly! 🐴🦷✨

💚 Ta**us is looking for a special home 💚

Meet Ta**us, a handsome 17-year-old grey gelding, standing at around 11hh. This lovely Welsh Section A is a real character and has a huge personality to match! 🥰

Ta**us is a friendly, human-orientated pony who loves being involved in whatever is happening. He likes to think he’s part of the team and will happily come over to see what everyone is up to! However, Ta**us is an older gentleman who knows his own mind! if he decides an activity isn’t worth his time, he’ll politely let you know with a firm “NO THANK YOU!” 😂

He is polite and well-mannered to handle with both staff and volunteers and is good for:
✨ Grooming
✨ Leading
✨ Picking out his feet
✨ Feeding

🏡 What home would suit Ta**us?

Ta**us really thrives on calm, consistency and routine. He loves having friends around him and would benefit from a home with consistent herd mates, as he doesn’t enjoy being left alone.

He is currently turned out with geldings. Ta**us can become a little possessive over mares, so a gelding-based friendship group would be preferable.

Although he is happy to be stabled for short periods when needed, Ta**us much prefers being out and moving. As an older gent, he can become a little stiff if standing for long periods.

🌱 Feeding & management
Ta**us is currently not on any hard feed and has free access to vitamins and minerals. He has low-calorie forage available 24/7, with his grazing restricted during the spring and summer months.

Ta**us will need a home that is happy to carefully manage his weight. A home with a track system or similar setup, alongside other grazing-restricted companions, would be ideal.

🩺 Veterinary & routine care
Ta**us is good for the vet, although he can sometimes need a little gentle encouragement. He is fully up to date with his vaccinations, including Flu, Tetanus and Strangles.

He is good for the farrier and is trimmed every 6–8 weeks as required.

Ta**us is sedated for the dentist and requires dental rasping every 6 months.

Vices: None known. 💚

❤️ The home we’re looking for

We’re looking for a loving, calm and consistent home where Ta**us can enjoy his retirement years with plenty of companionship, routine and the opportunity to simply be a pony.

Ta**us may be an older gentleman, but he certainly hasn’t lost his character! We think his forever person is going to absolutely adore him. 🥰

📍 Based at The Hugs Foundation, Bodmin

If you think Ta**us could be the special pony you’ve been looking for, please get in touch with us for more information about our rehoming process. 💚

We’re incredibly excited to share that Nicole, one of our supporters, is taking on the London Marathon 2027 on Sunday 25 April, raising vital funds for Hugs! Nicole has dreamed of running the marathon for many years and we’re so grateful that she has chosen to take on this huge challenge for Hugs. Every mile she runs and every pound she raises will help us continue caring for our rescued horses and ponies while providing life-changing support to children, young people and older adults facing challenges including trauma, mental ill health, disability, disadvantage and loneliness. Every donation, no matter how small, really does make a difference, so please get behind Nicole, cheer her on and, if you can, please make a donation to help her reach her fundraising goal. You can donate here https://www.justgiving.com/page/nicole-third-1. Thank you for your support🐴🤗💚🙌
