🐾 Distractions, distractions, distractions! 🐾

A fun night working with distractions for both our Silver & Bronze Progression classes! 💪🐶

Every team worked at their own level, with distractions tailored to suit them — noise, movement and proximity all coming into play. 👀👃

Our Silver teams also worked on their active finds, and they’re now building a scent library of 3 different scents! 🎉

Great work from all the teams, progressing at their own pace and building those skills along the way. 👏

Happy dogs, happy handlers and plenty of sniffing! 🐕💨

🌲🐾 A great day of Mantrailing in the forest yesterday! 🐾🌲

10 teams out trailing, with everyone working at their own level and with trails tailored to suit each individual team.

From hunting trails for our newer dogs to more technical challenges for our experienced teams, there was plenty of learning, problem-solving and progress all round. 💪🐶

Great fun, great trailing and some fantastic work from every team! 👏

And to top it all off… we were treated to a beautiful day weather-wise too! ☀️🌳

No pics but some great work by our new Bronze UK Sniffer Dogs class last night.

2nd week and already forming an indication and showing understanding of the the scent they are searching for with some simple searches.

🐾 Fun and games at last night's Bronze & Silver Progression classes! 🐾

A great night of searching, problem-solving and happy dogs! 😊

Our Bronze class (pictured below) was a small group of 4, including two dogs with additional challenges – one with sight difficulties and one with only 3 feet!
And guess what? They all managed perfectly well! 💪🐶

Scentwork is all about using those amazing noses and brains, adapting to the individual dog and letting them work at their own level.

No matter their physical ability, every dog can enjoy the mental stimulation, confidence building and fulfilment that scentwork brings.

Tired brains, happy dogs and fulfilled handlers – that's what it's all about! ❤️🐾

🐾 MARKING, REWARDING & TIMING — WHY DO THEY MATTER? 🐾

When we’re training our dogs, it’s not just what we reward that matters… it’s when and how we do it!

🎯 MARKING
A marker tells your dog “YES! That’s exactly what I wanted!”
It could be a word like “yes”, a clicker or another consistent sound.

🍖 REWARDING
The reward is what makes your dog want to repeat that behaviour. Food, toys, praise or access to something they love — it should be something valuable to that individual dog.

⏱️ TIMING
This is the big one! Your dog needs to understand exactly which behaviour earned the reward. Mark too late and you might accidentally reward something completely different!

Think of it as:

BEHAVIOUR → MARK → REWARD 💥

Get those three working together and you can make training much clearer for your dog, build confidence and create behaviours they actually want to repeat.
And remember — we’re training dogs, not mind readers! 😂🐶

Good timing + clear communication = happy dogs and handlers ❤️

🐾 WHY REST IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS TRAINING! 🐾

Especially for our sports dogs! 💪🐶

We all love seeing our dogs working, learning and smashing their goals, but rest is part of the training too. ❤️

🏃‍♀️ Sports dogs use their bodies hard – rest helps muscles recover and reduces the risk of injury.

🧠 Training is mentally tiring too! Rest gives their brains time to process what they've learned.

⚡️ Too much work without enough recovery can lead to tiredness, frustration and reduced performance.

💤 A good balance of work, play and proper downtime helps keep our dogs happy, healthy and enjoying their sport for longer.

Remember, more isn't always better. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your dog is put your feet up together! 🐾❤️

Happy dogs + happy handlers = what it's all about! 😊

Silver Class! 🥈

What a brilliant first night for our Silver teams! 👏🐾

All the dogs were smashing it and showing just how much work they’ve put in during their Bronze journey.

A brilliant mix of dogs and handlers, all working together in the same room, tackling new challenges and stepping up to the next level. 💪

It’s lovely seeing everyone putting the foundations in place, building confidence and working towards their next goals.

Onwards and upwards, Silver teams! 🐾🥈
