STOP RUSHING IT!

Loose lead walking is built through repetition, not by dragging your dog around for 40 minutes and hoping it improves.

Follow these steps:

1. Start at home

Practise inside the house, in the garden or on the driveway. Keep the environment quiet and easy.

2. Keep sessions short

Practise for a few minutes at a time. Focus on quality, not distance.

3. Reward the correct position

When the lead is loose and your dog is walking calmly, mark and reward it.

4. Gradually move further away

Once your dog can manage the driveway, move onto the street. As they improve, slowly increase the distance and difficulty.

5. Watch your dog

If they start pulling, ignoring you or becoming overwhelmed, the environment is currently too difficult.

6. Go back and make it easier

Move closer to home or return to a quieter area. Rebuild the behaviour before trying again.

7. Repeat

Your dog earns more distance by showing they can remain calm and responsive.

Do not practise loose lead walking for five minutes and then allow your dog to pull for the next 40 minutes🤦🏻‍♂️
