Our final class at Higher Walton was tricks!
Dot, Edie and Flint have pretty much mastered the main part of this trick now, which is retrieve the rose and paws up on the stool, or place the rose on the stool! So over the next few weeks we will be adapting it slightly ready for our Halloween reveal🤩

Edie got an upgraded retrieve, and mastered the placing of an item on the stool! No mean feat over the last few months to not only learn the retrieve but also the hold, paws up and hold and release on target!

Dot and Flint both polished off their retrieves and placements, which looks amazing! Dot especially has come on leaps and bounds, for a dog that liked to have the rules clearly laid out with no room for tweaking, she's now totally up for a change on what she gets to try! At one time we would never have got both a paws up hold and a retrieve and place the item in the same session, nevermind on the same 5 mins!

Flinty was working on holding his rose striking different poses, as he too has a few personal preferences when it comes to holding something and a stool being involved!

Absolutely cracking session! We cannot wait for Halloween for the end result👻

In our final scent class, Dot and Edie got to work on some bag searches with multiple finds, before moving on to bags and chairs!
Whilst they are used to multiple finds, sometimes, switching up the search area can show a missed training opportunity,so multiple finds on bags it was!
Once we'd tried them out with this, we moved on to chairs and bags, with some tricker finds again with these two of could it be in a bag or on a chair, some well placed bags make this game all the more fun, and teaches the dogs to work extra hard to distinguish the source Vs what they'd prefer it to be hidden on or in.

Excellent work!! Especially Edie on the multiple bag finds, and both of them on the chairs and bags, really nice working out and working on to source!

Next up at Higher Walton we had Daisy and Daisy!
These two kicked off the session with some bag work, with Toller Daisy moving on to some tricker chair and bag searches whilst Spaniel Daisy showed off how confident she could be with an increasing number of bags and a more complex search area!

Toller Daisy found some of the new bags very interesting so we tweaked the searches a little so we could make them, less desirable than the scent, before adding them back in. Then we upped our game by adding on our sneaky "is it on a bag or on a chair" effort, which made her have to put all her skills into play! Needless to say, whilst tricky, she smashed it!

Spaniel Daisy started off with some confidence building bag searches, and then we added in more bags, then changed how the bags were presented, and because she seemed to be getting more and more confident, we added in changing up how the bags were laid out. You had to be there to believe how much more confident Daisy needed the session, compared to when she started it!
Full head in the bag level confidence!

Well done both of you!

First up at Higher Walton was Ted, who got back to work on his bag searches, before moving on to bags and chairs (with a bit of patience work in between). The best thing about Ted? His enthusiasm and drive to work! He is ALWAYS ready...so we are working on, patience between searches. Partly so that he learns that not everything can be at his pace, and partly so we can move finds around, because he REALLY, REALLY LIKES SEARCHING😅

We did a mix of bags and chairs with some easier hides at first, before taking things up to the next level with some well placed bags meaning he had to work out of the find was on the chair or on the bag, let's just say we need to up our game!

Well done Ted!

At our Thornton scent class this week, teams Holly, Lottie and Tully did some work on larger search areas, with finds at different heights. We decided on using the wind to our advantage to make finds easier/harder, so either the scent was contained on a very sheltered spot or there was an overlap of plume tails.

All three teams did amazing work, the more open finds were the easiest ,with the sheltered ones giving thema but more of a challenge!
The size of the search area also meant handlers (and us!) could really see the dogs working onto source!

Well done everyone!

Our final class last week was Tricks, with Dot, Edie and Flint!
We are still working on our retrieve, hold, and paws up combo trick, but it's coming along VERY nicely!

We think we might just be able to get the whole class doing this together by Halloween😁

Next up we had the Terriers! Dot and Edie have done some bag work before, so these two started with some simple line ups, and then we switched up the patterns, adding in more and more bags to search (got to tire those terriers out!🤣).
We got off to, shall we say, an interesting start, but then things settled down as we made the searches more complex!

Fantastic work from both Edie and Dot, neither give up, even when they are presented with more complex searches! Some very nice indications!

Next up on our bag searches were The Two Daisy's! Whilst Spaniel Daisy got her bearings again and got cracking building confidence with our bags for life, Toller Daisy went straight in for some indication game on them.
Both then moved on to adding either some more bags, different patterns, or the bags being presented differently, but at their pace, so that whilst they still had to work hard, they could be successful!

Excellent work from them both! Some very nice searching, with Spaniel Daisy getting more confident as the session went on, and coming into a bigger area to work in, and Toller Daisy getting tested with some more difficult bag placements around furniture!

Well done both!

This week's scent classes were great fun! Kicking off this week with bag searches with Ted!
We started with some indication game work on a couple of bags, before moving onto some line ups and patterns, and because he seemed to be doing ok, we added in some easier chair and bag searches. Which, to be fair, might have finished him off brain wise, but it was worth it. We really tested him this week, AND with the next class arriving creating a bit more distraction, we got to test out his work ethic! (Work ethic won🤣)

Well done Ted!
