Building resilience and confidence in small dogs doesn’t have to be difficult. Start by encouraging them to engage more with novel situations on you daily walks.
Ideas:
- jump up onto a bench
- jump op on a ledge or small wall
- go over a bridge with open gaps
- find a moving surface or new texture
- find a tunnel or small space to squeeze in

Let me know what you try and how you get on!

Adding good, structured play could be a game changer for you and your dog.
Here is 4 minutes (compressed into 1) of un-edited play from my 15 minute walk this morning.
This morning looked like:
0545 bootcamp workout,
0645 home and coffee,
0700 back out with the dogs for a quick leg stretch,
0715 back home and into getting kids ready for school/ getting ready for work.
Your not short of time, you just dot have a strategy to make the time you have count.
Adding 5-10 minutes play give your dog:
An outlet for its instincts.
A chance for it to face a challenge.
An opportunity to win.
Training practice.
Bond building with you.

So tomorrow, ditch your walk round the block, leave the chuckit at home and INTERACT with your dog!

Challenges. All animals, including humans, are biologically and genetically wired to overcome challenges, as a mechanism for survival.
Our mind and body are programmed to seek these challenges in order to preserve the skills necessary for survival.
If humans or dogs don’t have the ability to face challenges, they may experience anxieties, stress, restlessness or frustration.
Whilst not having to face TRUE adversity is great in our modern world, as humans we still seek physical and mental challenges. Exercising, puzzles, learning, adventures.
Now how does your dog get their feelings of satisfaction? Is it exerted on runs, challenged to problem solve or taken on adventures that take it back closer to nature?
Start getting out of the comfort zone!
