🐾 WE DON’T JUST TRAIN DOGS… WE TRAIN THEM FOR REAL LIFE. 🐾

Indoor classes. Outdoor classes. Pack walks. Group training. Real dogs. Real situations. Real results.

Yes, we teach the foundations sit, down, stay, recall, lead walking but that’s only the beginning.

Because what really matters is having a dog you can actually enjoy life with. ❤️

🐕 Calm and neutral around other dogs
☕ Settled in cafés and public places
🏙️ Confident through busy town centres
🌳 Well behaved in busy parks
🎆 Prepared for fireworks and loud noises
🚪 Calm when visitors come to the house
🍗 Better manners around food
🦴 Help with resource guarding
🐾 Focus and control around everyday distractions

We train for the situations that actually happen in everyday life.

The goal isn’t a dog that can perform a perfect “sit” in an empty room.

The goal is a calm, confident, well-mannered dog that you can take anywhere, at any time and actually enjoy doing it.

Meet Max 🐾 Small dog. BIG character. 😂❤️

I wanted to share this lovely video and feedback from Max’s owner, Fiona, because for some reason her original post didn’t make it onto the Paws2Train page when she tagged us!

I’ve known Max since he was a tiny puppy. Over the years he’s done 1-2-1 training, classes and summer boot camps with me, so he already had a really good foundation of obedience. And anyone who knows a Jack Russell will know that although they might be small, they can have a HUGE personality and Max certainly does! 😂

Recently, Max and his family moved up north, where they found themselves surrounded by deer, hares and pheasants. For a little dog with Max’s prey drive, that was a whole new level of temptation!

His family were finding that when that prey drive kicked in, his recall simply wasn’t enough. Max was running off and getting himself into bother, and they reached the point where they no longer felt confident letting him off lead.

So they made the journey back down to work with me and introduce Max to the e-collar.

Because they now live so far away and needed to head back up north, we worked through a more intensive programme together. Max already had all that previous obedience training behind him, so we weren’t starting from scratch the foundations were there. What we really needed to address was that strong prey drive and give his family a way of communicating with him when instinct was taking over.

Fast forward four weeks… and look at him now! ❤️

Max is back off lead, listening to his recall and, in Fiona’s words, “prancing around like a happy wee dog.” 😂 His family feel completely confident that he isn’t going to disappear off and put himself in harm’s way.

There’s still work to do because training is always an ongoing process but Fiona says Max has never been happier with his new-found freedom.

And that’s what this was about for me. Not changing Max or taking away that brilliant little Jack Russell character, but giving him the freedom to enjoy being a dog while giving his family the confidence that they can keep him safe.

Thank you so much, Fiona, for making the journey back down, for trusting me with your little pocket rocket, and for the lovely words. ❤️🐾

He may be small… but Max certainly doesn’t do anything by halves! 😂

Well… the guesses are in! 😂🐾

And I have to say, some of you weren’t far off!

I’ve actually worked with this gorgeous boy on and off since he was young, and the main reason his owners originally got me out was pulling on the lead… although there’s a little more to it than that. ❤️

He’s a big, young, daft, ridiculously friendly German Shepherd who thinks everybody he sees is potentially his new best mate. 😂

He doesn’t pull because he’s worried about people or dogs quite the opposite. He just wants to get over there, say hello, investigate what’s happening and generally involve himself in absolutely everything. 🤣

And when you’re his size, being far too friendly can still be a lot of dog coming towards someone!

There’s also a touch of selective hearing in there… 👀😂

Funnily enough, he seems to know exactly which members of the family he needs to listen to… and which ones he might be able to negotiate with. 😇

With me?

Absolute angel. 😂

He never puts a paw wrong. He listens beautifully, walks lovely and suddenly appears to have forgotten he ever knew how to be a hooligan.

Which tells us something important this boy is very clever. He’s worked out exactly what he can get away with, and with whom!

But honestly, he is just the loveliest lad. Young, daft, full of personality, incredibly friendly and a typical big German Shepherd clown. ❤️🐾

And I meant what I said in the first post…

I’d take him home with me in a heartbeat.

Wouldn’t even have to think about it. 😂❤️

Unfortunately, I don’t think his owners are going to let me keep him! 🤣

Some dogs just grab a little piece of your heart… and keep it. ❤️🐾

This gorgeous boy is one of them.

I’ve worked with a lot of dogs over the years, and every now and then you meet one who just gets you. There’s something about this lad that I absolutely adore. 🥰

But I thought we’d have a bit of fun with this one…

Looking at this face, what do you think his owners originally asked me to help them with? 👀

Was he…

🐾 Pulling like a train on the lead?
🐾 Reacting to other dogs?
🐾 Completely ignoring his humans when something more exciting appeared?
🐾 Struggling when visitors came to the house?
🐾 Or something else entirely?

Pop your guess in the comments I want to see what you all think! 😂

And don’t let that innocent face influence you too much… 😇

I’ll reveal the answer afterwards, along with a little bit about what we worked on and how he got on. ❤️
