💚 World Mental Health Day 💚

Veterinary medicine is more than just a profession – it’s a passion built on compassion, dedication and a love for animals. 🐾

But even those who spend their days caring for others need care themselves.

Today, we’d like to shine a light on the importance of mental wellbeing within the veterinary profession and recognise the emotional demands that often go unseen.

You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take time for yourself, celebrate the little victories and never forget the difference you make. 💚

Everyone meet the adorable, Bruno! 🤍🐾

Bruno was in for his 6 month health check with one of our nurses and flea and worm preventative medication 🪱 💊

During these checks a nose to tail examination is performed to screen for any possible issues, this is all noted on your pet’s file, if there any issues flagged our nurses may try to refer you to a vet if there is one available, or schedule an appointment for another day 💚

Bruno was such a good boy for his check, and walked out happy with his 6-months of parasite prevention so his parents don’t need to worry in these colder months about extra pets in the house… like fleas, ticks or worms! 😣

We need to introduce a special boy… this is Pickles 🥒

He presented to our Spennymoor branch, listless, and in a very bad way, they triaged, gave initial life saving intervention and transferred him to our main, out-of-hours branch, Bishop Auckland 🏥

When he arrived it was revealed Pickles had unfortunately suffered a urethral obstruction, causing him not being able to urinate; this causes a toxin build-up and when left untreated this condition is fatal 😣

Pickles’ condition was very touch and go, he received, invaluable, round the clock care from our nursing and veterinarian teams 💚

He was one of those patients, that we knew he was trying very hard to get better, so we helped him along. Pickles stayed for a few days in hospital, his bloods being checked periodically, intravenous fluid therapy being provided and various medications and supportive treatment lasting throughout his stay… and of course lots of cuddles with our nurses 🫶🏻

This condition is life-threatening and should never be treated as if it is anything but, if your male cat is unable to urinate, you must seek veterinary care as a matter of emergency 🚨

We needed to share the perfect boy with you all, he is another success story for team WVG 💚🫶🏻

🍂 Everyone say hello to, Autumn 🍂

This gorgeous girl is called, Autumn. She was seen at our Bishop Auckland branch last week for a reason we have seen far too many times!

Little Autumn thought it would be a great idea to eat a sock! 🧦 as many Labrador puppies decide to do, luckily Autumn brought the sock back up at home, giving her owners a momentary bout of relief… and then Autumn ate the sock again! 🙈

That’s when we stepped in, Autumn’s owners brought her in to be made sick so the sock had no possibility of causing a life-threatening blockage🚨

We’re happy to say that after the medication that makes patients sick wore off, Autumn was feeling as good as new 💚

Autumn was just the most gorgeous little patient, and we wanted to share her with everyone 🐾
