We couldn’t keep this cutie all to ourselves!
Please say hello to, Milo! ❤️

Little Milo here was in with us last Friday for a dental procedure at our Bishop Auckland branch 💚

He was a super brave boy, he had to have some teeth out and didn’t seem like anything had happened! You can see him below having some cuddles with one of our nurses after his procedure 💕

Doesn’t he look so dapper with his bow tie! 🤵

Let’s talk about rabbit dental health! 🦷

Our furry little friends have open rooted teeth, meaning they constantly grow, up-to a rate of 2-2.4mm a week! 📏

Rabbits typically grind their own teeth down naturally through a naturally coarse diet made up of high fibre components such as hay or grass 🐰

Unfortunately for some rabbits, diet isn’t enough 😞 if a rabbit has a malocclusion, or put simply a misalignment of their teeth, they will not grind down properly; creating the problem below!👇

This little bun was very good to have his teeth cut down, this is a process that is quick and simple, in most cases sedation is not required, and it will make all the difference to his digestion. If rabbits don’t eat constantly, due to being hind gut fermenters, they can go into gut-stasis which is life threatening 🚨

Not sure what your rabbits teeth look like? Want to have them checked by a professional? Get them booked in at any of our 3 wonderful branches! 💚💜💙

We make sure every session is a positive experience for your dog!

1️⃣ Your first visit is all about getting to know your pet. We assess their movement on land and introduce them to the treadmill, often without water first, to make sure they feel confident and happy.

2️⃣ In follow-up sessions, we start with a quick check-in. Your dog will be fitted with a harness and given a quick shower before entering the treadmill.

3️⃣ Your dog will walk in our warm water treadmill (kept at a cozy 28-32°C to relax muscles!).

4️⃣ Afterward, they get a rinse and a towel dry.

Sessions can last up to 50 minutes, though we always go at your dog's individual pace.

Is your dog in need of a little extra support? 🤔

We are proud to offer specialist hydrotherapy services here at Wilson Veterinary Group! But what exactly is hydrotherapy? Put simply, it is a form of low-impact, joint-friendly exercise conducted in a controlled, aquatic environment.

Our sessions are led by a fully qualified physiotherapist and an underwater treadmill to help your pet move comfortably.

Whether your dog is recovering from surgery, managing a chronic condition like arthritis, or just needs help with weight loss, hydrotherapy provides a supported space to build strength without straining their joints.

Everyone say hello to, Otto and Harry! 💛🖤

They were in today for their health checks with our brilliant nurse, Helen! 💕

What is a pet health plan nurse check?
🐾 Comprehensive nose to tail check
🐾 Checking the condition of the pet
🐾 A chance to raise behavioural or mild concerns
🐾 Perfect time to get your pet’s preventative flea and worming medication
🐾 Dental health checks

What can nurses not do?
❌ Nurses are legally not allowed to prescribe medication
❌ Nurses are not allowed to diagnose conditions
❌ Address serious concerns that require diagnostic testing

These boys were perfect patients for their check and will be due in again in 6 months to see the vet for their next check! 💚

‼️ HEATSTROKE WARNING ‼️
This weekend’s temperatures are meant to be in the 22-27 degree range; this is too hot for a walk.

We unfortunately have had multiple fatal cases of heatstroke last year, they are preventable losses, your pet will not die from not going on a walk, but they may from going on a walk in this heat. PLEASE keep your pets inside.

If your pet is exposed to the heat, cool them down as soon as possible using the following techniques:
💧 Use cold water
💧 Give them a cold shower
💧 Focus cooling their sweat gland areas: ears & paws
💧 Plenty of water to drink

DO NOT
❌ Wrap towels over your pet, this traps in the heat and will exacerbate the symptoms
❌ Use lukewarm water at first, just use cold water
❌ Do not think a paddling pool is enough to keep them cool

If you think your pet is suffering from heatstroke you must get them to a vet immediately, do not wait 🚑

This goes without saying, if you see a pet in a car in this heat please contact the police as they will be able to handle the matter, we cannot unfortunately 👮

Please spread this information to your family and friends, talk about it with family members who may not have social media as simple information like this can save lives 🐾

⭐️Sunday Showcase ⭐️

This beautiful boy is, Billy 💛

Billy presented to our brilliant out of hours team, Sara, Ree and Harriet, due to collapsing after ingesting an unknown substance on a walk 🐕

Our team on shift sprung into action shortly after midnight, starting diagnostic tests to determine why Billy had become unconscious and non-responsive. They performed urine and blood tests, and an ultrasound to check for free-fluid🚨

Urine tests showed drug intoxication, the severity of symptoms depends on what drugs have been ingested and the quantity. Our team administered supportive treatment with fluid therapy, opioid reversing medicine, and other treatments including intralipid therapy 💉

Intralipid therapy works by helping to “trap” fat-soluble toxins within the bloodstream, reducing their effects on the body. In Billy’s case, this may have prevented further deterioration. Following this, intensive supportive care was continued by our day team 👩‍⚕️

Shortly after our night team finished for the night, Billy was able to stand, wag his tail and went from strength to strength! He started eating, going for walks and proved he was ready to go home 🏡

We wanted to take this chance to show that 24hours a day, 7 days a week, our team are here, poised to look after your pet when they need it most 💚🐾

Everyone meet, Alby 🤍

He is a precious little 2-month-old West Highland White Terrier. He visited us today for a health check and nail clip with our lovely vet, Georgiana 🐾

It is important to carry out these visits with puppies, giving them positive experiences during the socialisation stage to prevent unwanted behaviours as they grow! Alby, was very good for his visit and we cannot wait to see him again 💚
