We are officially entering cosy season! 🍁

Here are a few things to keep your pets safe as the weather gets colder πŸ‚

🌳 Conkers and Acorns - as well as being toxic if ingested, these autumn tree seeds can cause blockages in the intestines which, if not treated, can be fatal

🍎 Fallen and rotting fruit - poses multiple risks to animals, mainly mould toxicity which can cause neurological and digestive harm! Ethanol poisoning is caused by the fermentation process and ingesting whole pips/seeds can cause intestinal blockages

πŸ„ Wild Mushrooms - symptoms range from mild stomach upset to fatal liver/kidney failure or neurological harm if ingested

🐌 Slugs and Snails - common causes of lungworm, preventative treatments can reduce the risk. Even their slime trails on outdoor water bowls, toys etc can carry the parasite

❄️ Anti-freeze - most commonly affecting cats, if ingested can cause rapid kidney failure and is frequently fatal

Today is Ginger Cat Appreciation Day 🐱

Did you know

🧑 75-80% of ginger cats are male, this is because the orange pigment gene is carried on the X chromosome, males only need one X chromosome to show the orange pigment, but a female would need two 😯

🧑 Ginger cats are known to be very affectionate, cheeky and playful

🧑 They tend to have unusual behaviour traits, making them more adventurous and confident

🧑 Gingers all have tabby patterning in their coats

Show your cheeky ginger felines some love in the comments 🦁

It’s that time of year again!

Grass seed season! 🫣🌾

Grass seeds are very common in the summer months and have an unfortunate habit of embedding themselves into our pets skin! This is concerning as they can bury themselves into the body and migrate towards vital organs! 🫁

Grass seeds are most commonly found around pets paws, ears and eyes! 🐾

We have removed 6 grass seeds from pets ears over the last week alone! 😲

To best avoid a grass seed incident, try not to let your pets run, roll or dive into long grass and ensure you check your pets all over after walks! 🌾

If you are concerned your pet may have a grass seed stuck, or have noticed an usual swelling, frequent head shaking or anything out of the ordinary, contact your vet πŸ“ž
