Sunday morning weekly training. Beginners started the session with some obedience and steadiness, then seen and memory retrieves including a split with a distraction. We finished the session with some water retrieves focusing on entry and delivery.
Novice group started with steadiness then moved onto hunting with dummy thrown, dog stopped and sent for a memory, then sent for the thrown dummy. We then moved to the water working on entry when sent at a distance from the bank and retrieves over the water.

A busy one this weekend. Saturday I took a trip to Red Hall Farm Gundog Training Ground in Staffordshire, for a training session with The Hiraethog Hunt Point Retrieve Association (Proposed)

This is a dedicated training groun providing us with the opportunity to test the dogs marking ability to shot, retrieving from deep ground cover and using the varying areas of water the ground has.

All handlers progressed through the day, pushing their dogs to try new things and learning how to succeed with minimal handling by using the wind to give the dogs the best chance of finding a blind retrieve.

Thank you for the invite and to those who attended. Looking forward to my next visit.

Sunday morning weekly training. Beginners started the class with some obedience and steadiness, then moved onto some hunting with stop to shot and a dummy thrown. Then a simple retieve over a jump, and finished off with a blind and some water retieves.
Novice group worked on blinds over a jump. Then moved onto direction and handling the dog out of an area (where a dummy was seen to drop) onto a blind in a different area. We finished the session with a distraction thrown on the water and a blind over a jump to be retieved first, and finally a blind into cover.

Sunday morning training was a warm one, so we spent plenty of time in the shade with lots of water work to keep the dogs cool.
Both groups worked on building confidence in and around water, with differing entries, increasing distance to the retieve and delivery to hand on exit.
