Rescue is more than what people see. ❤️
My name is Mark, and I’m Sadie’s partner. I think people sometimes forget that, for some, rescue isn’t just something they do. It’s a calling that takes over so much of their time, energy and everyday life.
Today, Sadie had planned a quick trip to look for some baskets. Instead, as so often happens in her life, those plans went out of the window. And because of that,
Six dogs are now safe, cat traps have been set for a awful situation regarding severe neglect, and three gerbils have been helped. Thank you to everyone involved,it was lovely to meet some of you.
Sadie is great at networking & puts 110% into finding the best help, if she can't help herself ❤️
However, there’s another side to today that needs addressing.
Sadie was contacted by someone believing she had agreed to help with four cats. She had not agreed to take them, nor had she authorised anyone to use her name as though she had.
There is a difference between agreeing to take responsibility for animals and somebody else making that commitment on your behalf. The situation became increasingly agitated, and Sadie made the decision to block the person involved.
What people don't always see is the work that happens behind the scenes, every single day.
There are hours upon hours of calls, emails, texts, trapping and transporting, and constantly trying to find solutions for animals in need.
Even when Sadie is physically present, she's probably spending 95% of her time answering calls, replying to messages and sorting out the next situation.
So often, every decision, every rescue and every call for help its Sadie dealing with it. I see just how much responsibility falls on her shoulders, and I honestly don't think people always realise the sheer volume of work involved.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who adopts, fosters, volunteers who help at HQ covering duties, those who help when they can with trapping or transport, volunteers who help with admin on whatapp groups and of course Helen from adoptions. Every single one of you makes a difference, and we cannot thankyou all enough. ❤️
Your help lessens the load, but the work that remains is enormous. The constant networking, communication, coordination and decision-making never really stop. Even when Sadie cannot take an animal herself, she'll often spend hours trying to find someone who can.
Hence why were still out and about.. Sadie is currently collecting some donated food then we'll finally eat.
Nobody is earning wages for all those hours. Plans change, personal time disappears, and even a simple shopping trip gets abandoned because an animal needs help.
I'm incredibly proud of Sadie. But caring about animals doesn't mean you can take every animal, and nobody should make promises in someone else's name.
Rescue is hard work,
some teamwork, and a person carrying enormous responsibilities that often go unseen.
Sometimes you have to remember that the people doing this work are human too. They can only do so much, no matter how much they care.
Sometimes the shopping or arranged engagement has to wait. ❤️
