A weekend of Adoptions! We can't wait to see you all! 🐾

​Welcome Home!
It is completely normal for a cat to be "shut down" or highly stressed for the first 48–72 hours in a new environment. Most cats will open up and show their true personality once they feel safe—it’s just a matter of building trust in a new space.

​1. Start Small
To help your cat feel secure, keep them in a smaller, quiet space to begin with, such as a spare bedroom or a calm home office. Giving them a "home base" prevents them from feeling overwhelmed by the size of the whole house. Once your cat is confident and relaxed in that room, you can gradually allow exploration of the rest of the home.

​2. The "Rule of Three"
• ​3 Days: Time to decompress and stop feeling like they are in immediate danger.
• ​3 Weeks: Time to learn the new routine and start showing their personality.
• ​3 Months: Time to feel completely "at home" and bonded with their new family.

​3. Lower the Pressure
• ​Don't Pursue: Do not attempt to pull your cat out from under furniture or force cuddles. If they are hiding, they are "self-soothing." Let them come to you.
• ​The "Slow Blink": When you make eye contact, blink slowly and look away. In cat language, this says, "I am not a threat; I trust you."
• ​Passive Bonding: Sit on the floor in their room and read a book or use your phone. This allows the cat to get used to your presence and scent without the pressure of direct interaction.

​4. Food Is the Way to the Heart
• ​The "Smelly" Stuff: Stress can dull a cat's sense of smell. Offering warmed-up wet food, plain boiled chicken, or Lick-e-Lix treats can tempt them to eat.
• ​Night Owls: Most stressed cats won't eat while people are watching. Leave food out overnight and check the bowl in the morning.

​5. Scent Swapping
A familiar blanket that smells like their old safe spot acts as an "anchor" in the new home.
• ​Tip: Leave a piece of your worn clothing (like a T-shirt) near the cat's bed so they can safely associate your scent with their new safe area.
