WIRRAL DOGS, WE NEED YOU. 🐾
Have you heard about the proposed Peak Cluster CO₂ Pipeline?
It’s a huge carbon capture project, with around 121 miles of pipeline proposed, including a route straight through the Wirral peninsula.
Here’s what it could mean for our area:
🐾 Years of major construction through farmland, hedgerows, wildlife habitat and countryside, including areas where many of us walk our dogs every week.
🐾 A high pressure CO₂ pipeline running close to communities and popular walking routes. In 2020, a CO₂ pipeline ruptured near Satartia, Mississippi, resulting in dozens of people being taken to hospital after exposure to a dense cloud of CO₂. 😢
🐾 Public money. £28.6 million of funding has already been committed through the National Wealth Fund, while the wider project has been reported as costing billions. (Tax payer money!)
Supporters argue carbon capture is essential for cutting emissions from industries that are difficult to decarbonise.
But PLENTY of scientists, campaigners and local residents question whether projects like this are the best use of billions of pounds, and whether they risk locking polluting industries into place for longer. 👀
We think Wirral residents deserve to know exactly what is being proposed, what the risks are, what the disruption will look like and whether there are better alternatives.
