🚜 🐮 🏆 Peebles Show 2026 Round Up 🏆 🐮 🚜

What a brilliant day the Armac team had on Saturday at the Annual Peebles Show.

We were blessed with some great weather, and it was brilliant to see so many of our clients out enjoying the day — and perhaps enjoying a drink or two along the way! 🍻 From kids treasure hunting to sandpit playing, to bandaging our cow, we hope you all had as much fun as we did!

Even better, it was a very successful day in the ring, with familiar faces taking home prizes and winning various classes. 🏆👏 A huge congratulations to everyone involved!

We’re already looking forward to next year!🐎💙

🐦 Found a fledgling bird? Please don't "rescue" it! 🐦

In the past few weeks, our ARMAC team have seen many healthy young birds being brought into the practice by well-meaning members of the public. In most cases, these birds don't need rescuing—they're fledglings, and being on the ground is a completely normal part of learning to fly.

If they are in danger; eg on the road or out in the open, please carefully pick them up and move them to a sheltered area near by. Please only bring them to us if they are injured or in real need of veterinary assistance.

Thank you 🐦

☀️ 🐄 🐶 🏆 A busy ARMAC weekend 🏆 🐶 🐄 ☀️

What a fantastic weekend it was for the Armac team!

On Saturday, we were out in full force at the annual Biggar Show alongside many of our wonderful clients. With the sun shining, it couldn't have been a better day! There was plenty to keep the kids entertained, and it was lovely to catch up with so many familiar faces while enjoying some great hospitality.

And the fun didn't stop there! On Sunday, we headed to A Dog's Day Out at Traquair House. Our Peebles vet, Rachel, was busy judging the companion dog classes, while our nurse, Lora, was supporting Springer Spaniel Rescue at their tombola stall.
There were lots of rosettes handed out throughout the day, including awards for the fastest sausage eater, best musical sitting, and waggiest tail! Congratulations to all our clients and their fantastic pups who took part – we loved seeing you all there!

Thanks to everyone who stopped to say hello this weekend- we are looking forward to seeing you very soon at Peebles Show!

🐶☀️ Heat Stroke in Dogs ☀️🐶

As temperatures rise, our dogs are at serious risk of heat stroke, a life-threatening emergency that can develop in minutes.

🚨 Watch for these warning signs:
- Excessive panting
- Drooling more than usual
- Bright red or pale gums
- Weakness or lethargy
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Disorientation or stumbling
- Collapse or seizures

Prevention Tips:
✅ Always provide fresh water
✅ Walk dogs during cooler morning or evening hours/skip walking them over the next few days!
✅ Ensure access to shade and ventilation
✅ Never leave a dog in a parked car—even for a few minutes
✅ Avoid strenuous exercise in hot weather

🆘 If you suspect heat stroke:
Move your dog to a cool, shaded area.
Offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water.
Use cool, wet towels on the neck, chest, and paws.
Contact us immediately on 01721721293 (Peebles), 01899 220046 (Biggar).

Your dog won't lose fitness by missing a few days of walks, but they could suffer in high temperatures!

⚠️ Missing cat ⚠️

A client's cat sadly escaped while arriving at the practice last night and we are asking our local community to help us look for them.
Last seen near: Armac Vets, Biggar
Time: 5pm
Description:
* Name: Fifi
* Female, Neutered, black and white
* No collar but is microchipped
Cats who are frightened often hide nearby, so please check sheds, garages, gardens, under cars, and quiet places.

A gentle reminder to all cat owners visiting the practice;
If your cat has an accident in their carrier on the journey to us, please don't worry or feel embarrassed we are always more than happy to help clean carriers, bedding, and your pet when needed.
Travelling can be stressful for cats, and sometimes accidents happen.

We'd also like to remind owners to double-check that carriers are secure before travelling, as frightened pets can sometimes escape unexpectedly.

If you spot Fifi or have any information, please contact us ASAP on 01899220046.

Please share this post to help bring Fifi home safely.
