Our vets work super hard, and this seems pretty reasonable to us! ๐พ ๐ ๐ ๐ฆ ๐ฆโโฌ ๐น
๐พ A little reminder about our out-of-hours emergency service ๐พ
As an independent veterinary practice with surgeries in Biggar and Peebles, weโre proud to provide an out-of-hours emergency service for our own clients.
But did you know that our vets are usually working both the day before and the day after their night on call, and at weekends they are often sole charge from Friday 5pm until Monday 8am? We therefore ask that our out-of-hours service is kept for genuine emergencies, helping our vets to rest when they can.
๐ถ Things that need attention, but can usually wait until morning:
Mild vomiting or diarrhoea when your pet is otherwise well
Mild coughing, sneezing, itching or ear problems
Small, non-bleeding wounds
Weight-bearing lameness
Long-standing problems that haven't suddenly worsened
Repeat prescriptions and routine medication queries
๐จ Genuine emergencies include:
Difficulty breathing
Collapse or extreme weakness
Severe or uncontrolled bleeding
Suspected poisoning or toxin ingestion
Serious injury, such as being hit by a car
Prolonged or repeated seizures
Severe pain or distress
A suddenly swollen or painful abdomen
Difficulty giving birth
Inability to urinate, particularly in male cats
Sudden loss of vision or a serious eye injury
Any rapidly deteriorating condition where you are seriously concerned

If you're unsure, please do call us. We would always rather speak to you and help decide whether your pet needs urgent attention than have you worry at home โค๏ธ
โHowever by waiting until morning for less urgent queries, you are helping us to protect our vets' wellbeing and, most importantly, ensure that they are rested and able to provide the safest possible care when a genuine emergency does occur.
๐พ Thank you for helping us look after both your pets and our vets ๐พ
