Still very busy, we currently have 42 residents, just going to do a bit of an update on Daisy ❤️

Daisy came back into us over the summer, she was released a year earlier.
She was found in the pool at Victoria Park in Bideford. It was during the hot weather and we think she went into the pool to get a drink but couldn't get out 😔
Luckily a worker found her before it was too late.

We admitted her into Rescue as we wanted to check her health and ensure she didn't have secondary drowning.

Around a week after admission, she gave birth to 5 babies ❤️ 3 boys and 2 girls.

The worker not only saved her but saved 6 in total.

Daisy has now been separated from the babies as they are just over 8 weeks old and she's starting to get annoyed with them 😂 so before anything bad happens, she has her own hutch and should be ready for release very soon. The babies however will need to stay longer.

All of the babies will need names when they are ready to be microchipped and I would like to have some suggestions related to flowers in keeping with mums name. 😊

Here's a little video from cleaning out time, the babies have little rubber ducks to play with, they are very cute. One however is a biter 😂😂😂

Thought it was about time I did a post on an actual hedgehog 😂

This is Pip, she was found in Barnstaple trapped in a fence. The fence was a wood feather edge and in the neighbour's garden was a concrete post. She had somehow managed to get in and got stuck. The neighbor only noticed something was wrong because her dog allerted her. The neighbour who was on the concrete post side had been away so we don't know how long she was there for.

She was stuck tight, likely from where she was struggling to get out.

Pip had some wounds also likely from struggling, so she had wound care treatment and antibiotics in case of infection and constriction injuries.

She came in in August looking like the first picture. She was released in October 😊

As you can see she is a beautiful healthy girl now free. Good luck Pip ❤️ stay safe.

A whole species in danger because of us humans. 😔

I do the rescue with the help of volunteers, I couldn't do it without them or you guys with your donations.

It would be awful to lose hedgehogs due to the actions of us. Hopefully with the new banknotes depicting hedgehogs and other wildlife it might just make people think and keep wildlife in mind.

Sorry we've been quiet on Facebook, just still busy 😂

Thank you all for your donations I do have some thank you's to do, I will do it when I can 😁

We have had more hedgehogs going out on release 😊

We have said goodbye and good luck to:
Chestnut, Swimmers, Blake, Toni, Tinkerbell, Holly Hedwig, Millie, Barbera, Indigo, Azure, Petunia, Bob, Darcey, Groot, Flynn, Sage Franklyn and Zorro.

18 gone back in to the wild where they belong, 34 still in residence.

Daisy is still doing really well as a mummy to her family of 5 hoglets and they are venturing out of the bed area and eating their kitten biscuits and meat.

The seasons are confusing hedgehogs, normally they have 2 seasons, one in spring and the other in autumn. However we have not had a break at all this year from having small hedgehogs brought in. Most of these are being found out in the daytime all by themselves when they should still be with mum 😔

This is Barty, he has recently moved into a hutch from an incubator as he's doing so well. He came in very small and very grumpy but he has mellowed and likes attention.

Good evening, we are currently trying to get releases out. Quite a few have gone home with a long waiting list for our soft release pens.

The incubators are now in position and most are in use. We now have 16 incubators 😊. Some of the previous ones were very big so we have been able to use the same space for more units. We have 2 small ones and 14 big ones. Photos included below.

I will be doing an updated post on Daisy very soon, watch this space 😊

Talking of previous releases, we also have the return of Zorro who was released earlier this year, Franklyn has also found her way back.

Zorro was found out in the daytime in the feeding station. He had a lot of ticks which must have been very uncomfortable especially the ones in his ears. He is a big boy and probably won't be here for long.

Franklyn was found out in the daytime not far from where she was released. So far we haven't found anything untoward but we do faecal tests every couple of days to make sure.

This is the perfect example of needing an ultrasound machine.
When we get adult females, it's tricky to know if they are expecting. It can be a problem if we release them then the same night they go into labour as they might not have had time to make an appropriate nest.

At the moment we have 6 that could be pregnant but they have to stay for at least 34 days just in case.

Good morning,
A bit of an update on where we are with the incubators and other bits.

We have enough raised for 10 incubators 😍 thank you for all of the donations especially 1 person who knows who he is J.
We have bought all of the electronics for them but the boxes have been delayed but will hopefully be here by the weekend.

Our outside washer and dryer are in use and have been excellent especially because I no longer need to schedule our actual people washing but can do it whenever I need.

Outside sink, well we have had it for a while, it's in place however, we have been trying to get a plumber for almost a year now, they come (on our 5th or 6th one now) and say they can do it but we don't seem to be hearing back.

Electrics, we still need an electric cable to be installed from the fuse box to the hogspital, unfortunately having the same issues as the plumbers 😔

We also have a plan to reduce waste, we need a bunch of yoga mats and white pillowcases to do this. The plan will be to stop using newspapers. Not many people actually buy them now so eventually we won't end up with any so going forward I have a cunning plan 😂
If you have any yoga mats lying around please get in touch.

We are still full and trying to get as many out as possible however, due to so many being small on intake they need soft release first to get used to weather and foraging so we are a little behind. If however I do contact you for a release please reply as soon as possible so that it can be arranged either with you or an alternative place if you can't offer it a home.

We have a poorly boy, he's been here a while now and his vets bills have put a big dent in the bank balance, meds (several) sent off samples to lab for culture are hitting the £500 mark at the moment. Hopefully this will be the last he needs in order to be able to go home but who knows 🤔

Some of our lovely volunteers will be at pottington car boot sale on Monday raising funds for Hedwig's.

If you are local please go and support them. They will be happy to have a chat😊 they might also tell you about their favourites or about some of the characters we've had.

This is one of 3 found locally in the road in the daytime without mum 😢
