Day #2 off the property! 🍿🎬Obis 2nd hacking adventure.

Check out his reel from the day before for how well he has learnt to let go of feeling tense and bitey when behind and rushy when in front out!

Today we start to ask him a bit more, can you maintain relaxation when you leave the others & have another horse trot behind you…? 🤪

I love how he is starting to find more regulation in his rhythm and softness in his back and steps! 🤩👏🏻

Obi’s first ever trot under saddle💃🎬🍿

It’s time to introduce riding in the saddle for the first ever time to Obi this handsome young Friesan x Appaloosa I am starting.

Today is about him feeling able to move out and forward with freedom ✈️ 🙌🏻

I want to help him gain confidence with both carrying my weight and seeing me above before I add speed. I do this first by hanging on one side before stepping on properly & asking for more forward once I have green lights. 🤩

I’m so impressed with how much this little guy is changing each time 🥹 go Obi 🤍

Obis first ever ride 🙌🏻🍿🎬

I introduced Obi a couple of days ago, he is a young Friesan x Appaloosa we have with us for starting and so I wanted to share with you my process for helping him go from slightly boisterous & flighty to becoming a relaxed, confident ridden horse 🤪🤞🏻🎬🍿

I like to start all the young horses in a halter so that the first communication comes from a feel they are familiar with from our ground work, if they get tense I am not having to use the bit at a delicate stage which could cause confusion or reactivity.

Here you see the steps of the first ride, the most important thing to me is that I am confident he understands the questions I am going to ask him already because I have taught him them from the ground so then when I ask them from a different place on his back not only is the answer more likely to be yes but also he has a good base of information to reach to if he gets tense, over whelmed or confused.

I prioritise his confidence at each step, not moving forward until I feel like I have green lights so that each new question is built on understanding and communication. I like how even in the moments he struggles he is able to come back to me quickly and let go of his tension. Moving back to a regulated mindset really quickly enabling him to show up as a fairly confident learner even though he has never been ridden before 🥹💫🥰

Motley crew 🤪 This little herd of three are all with us in training 🫶🏻

We like where possible to integrate horses into small herds whilst they stay with us. We have a mares and geldings herd at the moment with then several other horses in individual fields but all able to touch and connect with each other over fences.

When integrating herds we do so very carefully and slowly but the horses usually tell us who they would like to live with! These guys are all barefoot and live out at night coming in during the day to train, eat and sleep 🤪😴

From front to back we have:

✨Obi who is a Friesan x Appaloosa with us for starting under saddle. How cool are his spotty markings!

✨Teddy a palomino and white warmblood x Welsh who was a pretty extreme restart we helped worked through many undesirable behaviours caused by discomfort in his body

✨Dico who joined us originally as an explosive, scared restart who is now on long term training livery and often acts as the steady grounded Uncle to babies and new restarts coming in for training ✌🏻
