Very few sanctuaries have the ability to make hay on the land they call home. But luckily for us at Amberwood, we have enough pasture to set aside for this purpose.
Winter feed is one of the biggest challenges for sanctuaries and I calculate that we need around 100 big bales to get us through the year without having to buy in extra. Due to the drought this time last year we only managed to make 30 bales from the fields here - but this year the rain has been consistent and the grass is growing really well meaning we are in line for a bumper crop! We will still need a week of two of consistently dry weather to actually make the hay, so fingers crossed we will get this from 1st July when we are permitted to cut the grass.
If we can get all the hay we need to get us through the winter into the barn over the next few weeks, then we would have achieved a massive win for the Sanctuary and a significant weight off our shoulders when it comes to getting through the winter, and believe me, we need all the help we can get when it comes to winter.
With your support we can make this possible - please help us reach our target for this fundraiser which will pay for the contractor to make the hay plus enough to buy in some extra if needed to get us to 100. If we can achieve this now, together, we will have overcome one of the biggest challenges we face each year - Winter Feed! ππΌππΌπ±
