A lovely start to the weekend, meeting up with Rob to ring our baby barn owls down on the track.
All 4 of our barn owl eggs have hatched successfully! Adding 4 beautiful, female baby barn owls to our areas population.

It's been a pleasure to watch their parents on an evening busily hunting to provide for their large brood of chicks, and we can't wait to watch these four grow and join in the evening flights and hunting.

How to poultice a horse
Using the horse as a camera stand whilst showing you guys how we poultice on the track!

We use a boot over our poultices as we're a surfaced a track, the old gaffa tape over vetwrap wouldn't last 5 minutes.

However our boots are a snug fit, as they should be. So this is how we poultice, using as little vet wrap as possible, to be able to fit the boot back on and give it the best chance to do it's thing, drawing out abcesses.

Top camera man and modelling work by Steve!!
Poultice extraordinaire, Hannah!!

This was a big step for Drifter she is a mare that has really struggled to let down after her cup fills, which means in the early days it would regularly over flow resulting in explosive behaviours. So we have spent 2 years and quite a few tears learning how to empty her cup as she fills it. We have had some great people along to help us, Nat to explain to me that my big grumpy ear pinny mare just wanted cuddles, or Krista and Hector who have been out hacking buddies during Hectors re-hab which has really turned Drifters hacking ability around and got us exploring new route, slowly.
And there are many other supportive people who have helped us, if I try and mention you all I'll miss someone off and offend people. If uve been part of our journey "Thanks You" we both appreciate it.
Just post to just to highlight that all journeys are different and they change along the way bt the journey is the important part not the destination, so make sure you're enjoying the journey, if not change the direction it's never too late.

As always I'm a bit late, but I just thought I'd share a proper round up of mine and Bertie Area Festival. We had a great couple of days at Port Royal we did our Bronze Elementary on the Thursday and came 10th with a great score of 64% we didn't get a photo on the day so the rosette pic is actually from Saturday. With lots of help to try and get Bertie to put his ears forward.... Safe to say he likes photos as much as I do 🤣.
Saturday we did Silver Novice and despite the judges maybe not appreciating Bertie's tries as much as I do I thought he did a great test! We came away with 65% and no rosette. But a great day and lots to learn.
Thanks to my staff who hold down the fort at home and the great liveries who come and support me and all of our outside support team you guys know who you are it definitely takes a village.

Track horses and sweetich

In our experience on our track, horses with sweetich still itch bt not to the point of bleeding or breaking the skin. None of our horses need fly rugs. We use fly sprays and other lotions etc to keep the itching to a minimum. But historically these horses have been rugged 24/7 kept away from fly's by being stables (all good practice) etc.
Does anyone know why or have any good guesses why track horses seem to be less irritated or affected by sweetich when they move to a track system as opposed to stable and field situation even if that field included friends.
I've got a couple of thoughts but I wondered if you guys had anything other ideas?

We had the wonderful Jen from Equinutrition to come and discuss our horses weights and feeding plans. Sadly some of our horses weights hadn't changed in the direction we would have liked..... But all horses body condition scores had improved. So we are headed in the right direction. As a yard owner and horse owner it's good to get an outside opinion regularly to make sure we are headed in the correct direction.

Thanks Jen.

I really do have the best liveries. Myself and my staff don't always get time to do the tidying jobs, I'll be honest they are usually last on my jobs list. Whilst I was away competing a group of liveries tidied up the inside of the arena and leveled the edges. Today a livery sorted out the outside as it was too warm to ride.
Thanks guys you are the best.
Thanks Hannah
