🐕🌧️ Beginner Gundog Group – Week 1! 🌿

Despite the wet and windy weather thrown at us today, we had a fantastic first Beginner Gundog Group Class at Ewelme Dog Fields!

All the dogs did incredibly well, getting stuck into their training with enthusiasm and making a brilliant start. 👏

🎯 Today’s session focused on:

🐾 Focus on the handler
🐾 Engagement and building a connection
🐾 Steadiness and impulse control
🐾 An introduction to the place board

A huge well done to everyone — you absolutely smashed your first lesson!
It was lovely to see the dogs getting started and everyone working so well together.

📍 Location: Ewelme Dog Fields

Let’s hope the weather is a little kinder to us next Saturday! 🤞🌤️

🐾 WHAT A FANTASTIC FINAL SESSION! 🐾

☀️ What a beautiful day to finish our Junior Gundog course at ,Ewelme Dog Training Facilities , sadly only 3 out of the 5 owners could attend the last lesson due to other commitments, but what fun we had!!

Today, we brought everything together with 8 fun training stations, giving our dogs and their owners the opportunity to practise and showcase the skills they’ve been learning over the last 6 weeks.

From impulse control, steadiness and recall to retrieving, heelwork, delivery to hand and whistle work, it was wonderful to see how far everyone has come. 👏🐶

At Kate’s K9 Training, I believe the best learning happens when training is fun, structured, rewarding and enjoyable for both ends of the lead!

These sessions are about building foundations, developing teamwork, improving focus and helping owners understand how to get the best out of their dogs — all while having a brilliant time together.

A huge well done to all our lovely dogs and their owners. You should be incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved over the last six weeks! 💚

Thank you for being part of such a lovely course. What a way to finish! 🐾

AND THAT’S A WRAP! MY PUPPY GRADUATES! 🎓🐶

What a lovely way to finish our final Saturday puppy class! 🥰

Over the last 6 weeks, we’ve watched these gorgeous puppies and their owners learn, grow in confidence and develop their training skills together. From learning to focus on their owners and practise their basic cues to recall, lead walking, impulse control and settling, everyone has worked so hard! 💜

It’s been wonderful seeing the progress each puppy has made, and I’m so proud of every single one of them. Every puppy is an individual, and training is all about taking those little steps, celebrating the wins and building a strong, trusting relationship along the way. 🐾

A huge well done to all our puppy graduates and their lovely owners! Thank you for choosing Kate’s K9 Training and for being such a wonderful group to work with.

Although our 6-week course has come to an end, this is just the beginning of your training journey together. Keep practising, keep things fun, be patient with your puppies and remember that consistency really does make a difference.

We’ll miss seeing you all on Saturday mornings, but we wish you and your gorgeous pups lots of happiness and success in the adventures ahead! ❤️🐶

Goodbye for now, and good luck, little graduates! 🎓🐾

🎆 FIREWORKS SEASON IS COMING — LET’S HELP YOUR DOG COPE!

If your dog struggled with fireworks last year, ideally, we would have started working on this months ago. But please don’t panic — there is still time to put a plan in place. ❤️

☎️ Book a chat with me!

At Kate’s K9 Training, we can discuss your dog’s individual needs and what you can do to help them through fireworks season. Every dog is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.

🩺 Please also speak to your vet. If your dog experienced significant fear or distress last year, now is the time to discuss the options available, including whether medication may be appropriate. You do not have to wait until your dog is in a state of panic before asking for help.

⚠️ A quick word about creating a den…

We’ve all heard the traditional advice to build a den and give your dog somewhere to hide. A safe space can be helpful for some dogs, particularly if they already choose to use it. However, simply putting a frightened dog into a crate or unfamiliar den will not magically make them feel safe. For some dogs, feeling confined or unable to escape can add to their distress.

Instead, look at what YOUR dog naturally finds comforting. Let them choose where they feel safest, and never force them into a space they are uncomfortable with.

❤️ The aim is to reduce fear, not simply manage the symptoms.

With the right support, careful preparation and veterinary advice where needed, we can help dogs cope better — both this year and in the future.

📩 Message Kate’s K9 Training to book a chat, and let’s work out a plan that suits your dog.

Don't wait until Bonfire Night. Let's get started now! 🫶

EXCITING NEWS – BACK TO SCHOOL I GO! 📚🐶

As some of you may already know, I’ll be reducing my Kate’s K9 Training workload at the end of this month to make way for something very exciting… MORE STUDYING! 🎓

Because apparently, I don't have enough to keep me busy already! 😂

If you know me, you’ll know how passionate I am about continuing my professional development (CPD). I absolutely love learning, particularly when it comes to understanding our wonderful four-legged friends!

So, I'm incredibly excited to be starting my...

🎓 Level 6 Diploma in Clinical Canine Behaviour: Theory, Practice and Application- Dip CAB (Canine)

with The Canine Behaviour College at the end of October!

What does this mean for Kate's K9 Training?

I'll still be offering training and behavioural support, but on a reduced basis to allow me enough time to give my studies the attention they deserve.

And don't worry, I'm not disappearing from Larkmead Vets!

I'll still be working at Larkmead Vets, running my nurse clinics and supporting our lovely clients and their pets. So you'll still see me there doing what I love!

💜 Why more studying?

My passion for dog training and behaviour just keeps growing!

The more I learn about how dogs think, feel, communicate and learn, the more I realise just how fascinating and complex canine behaviour really is.

There is ALWAYS something new to discover, and I genuinely believe that continuing to develop my knowledge and skills is one of the most important things I can do as a dog trainer and behaviour professional.

I'm particularly excited to deepen my understanding of the science behind canine behaviour and put that knowledge into practice to help the dogs and families I work with.

After all, the better we understand our dogs, the better we can support them. 🐶❤️

So here's to...

📚 More books!

🧠 More learning!

🐾 More canine behaviour knowledge!

☕ Probably a LOT more coffee!

😂 And possibly wondering why I thought going back to studying was such a brilliant idea!

But seriously, I absolutely cannot wait to get started.

Here's to the next chapter of learning, growing and doing what I love!
