Poor Bodie was seriously unwell when she arrived at our Vets Now Glasgow Hospital, suffering from vomiting, loss of appetite and very low energy.

After carrying out tests, our team discovered that Bodie had developed diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a life-threatening complication of diabetes, as well as pneumonia. 😥

But what exactly is diabetic ketoacidosis?

DKA occurs when the body doesn't have enough insulin to use glucose for energy. Instead, it begins breaking down fat, producing substances called ketones. When these build up in the blood, they can make it dangerously acidic.

Signs can include vomiting, loss of appetite, extreme tiredness and dehydration. It's a serious condition that requires urgent veterinary treatment.

Bodie spent five days in intensive care, receiving round-the-clock care from our Internal Medicine, Emergency and Critical Care, and Diagnostic teams.

Thankfully, we're delighted to share that Bodie is now back home and feeling much more like herself! ❤️

Her owners are learning how to manage her diabetes with insulin injections, with continued support from our Internal Medicine team.

Well done, Bodie! 🐾

Poor Polly developed a cough that was starting to affect her appetite, so she was brought to our team to be checked. 🐾

After an examination, our vet found that the likely cause was inflammation of her upper respiratory tract. Polly was prescribed anti-inflammatory medication and was able to head home to continue her treatment.

We hope she feels much better and is back to herself very soon. 💜

Meet Mylo 🐾❤️

Mylo recently went through a life-saving blood transfusion with our team after being diagnosed with IMTP (immune-mediated thrombocytopenia). This condition causes the body to mistakenly attack its own platelets - the cells responsible for helping blood clot. Without them, pets like Mylo can experience serious, spontaneous bleeding.

His journey isn’t a quick fix. IMTP requires ongoing treatment, regular vet visits, and lots of patience, but Mylo is taking it all in stride with the support of his loving family and care team 💉✨

We’re so proud of this brave boy and are rooting for him every step of the way 💙

An Easter treat quickly turned into an emergency for Holly the Labrador…

After getting into a stash of Easter goodies, Holly ate seven Easter eggs and several chocolate bars in minutes, putting her at serious risk of chocolate poisoning.

Chocolate contains theobromine, a substance dogs can’t process effectively. Toxic amounts can lead to vomiting, increased heart rate, restlessness and, in severe cases, seizures.

With her usual vet closed, she was taken straight to our Vets Now Belfast clinic, where prompt treatment helped remove the chocolate from her system before it could cause more serious harm. Holly made a full recovery thanks to our team ❤️

This is a reminder of how quickly situations like this can happen, especially across this Easter weekend when chocolate is more accessible at home.

Alby recently visited us after a bout of vomiting and wasn’t feeling quite like himself. After some treatment and plenty of TLC from our team, he was soon back on his paws and able to head home feeling much better.

Here he is with his owner, Emer Maguire ready to go home with his brave pet certificate 🥰

Meet brave Harvey 🐾 who was treated by his primary vets for a blocked bladder before being transferred to us for continued care.

When a cat can’t pass urine due to a blockage (often caused by crystals, stones, or inflammation), toxins build up quickly in the body. This can lead to severe pain and is a medical emergency that needs urgent treatment.

Watch for signs like frequent trips to the litter box with little or no urine, crying while trying to p*e, vomiting, hiding, or lethargy.

We’re happy to say that Harvey is now back at home and received his well-deserved bravery certificate 💙
