Ready to have fun with your dog and level up your training skills?

Our next 4-week block of dog training classes at Stewartby Village Hall are filling up fast, and we only have a few spaces remaining! 🐕

Whether you’re new to training or looking to brush up on your skills, our friendly, relaxed classes are the perfect place to learn, bond and have fun with your dog. 🐾

🐾 That’s a wrap on another fantastic training block! 🐾

We’ve had such a brilliant final week, with lots of progress, focus and some really impressive teamwork between dogs and their handlers. 💜

This week we worked on:

🐕 Loose lead walking & distractions – focusing on how quickly the dogs could recover from a distraction and refocus back onto their handler.

🔄 Recall finishes progression – building those recall skills and working towards a reliable, confident finish.

🌿 Environment & surfaces – noticing how different environments and surfaces can affect our dogs and their ability to focus and learn.

🚪 Stays & door manners – working through duration, distance & distractions to build calm, reliable behaviour.

🐾 Paws up – a fantastic body-conditioning exercise that also helps build confidence, body awareness and coordination.

🏆 And a HUGE congratulations to Sweep! 🏆

Sweep has absolutely smashed it and passed his Level 1! 🎉👏 What a fantastic achievement and a brilliant way to finish the block. Well done to Sweep and his handler — you should be incredibly proud! 💜🐾

A massive well done to everyone who has taken part in this block. It’s been wonderful watching you and your dogs grow in confidence, build your skills and work together. 🥰

🐾 Level Up Your Skills – Week Five! 🐾

Last night we focused our Loose Lead with handler mechanics and looked at the little things that can make a big difference.

🎯 Marker timing — what exactly are we marking, and are we getting our timing right?

🍖 Reward placement — where we deliver the treat can help set our dogs up for success.

🦮 The lead is a safety tool, not a steering wheel! We want to give our dogs the opportunity to make the right choices rather than manoeuvring them around.

🧠 We also focused on giving our dogs thinking time. Sometimes, waiting a few seconds is all they need to work something out.

We then built on last week’s discussion about repetitions and asked:
Does my dog need a break?

Learning to read our dogs’ body language is so important. Breaks prevent them becoming overtired and frustrated, while also giving them valuable processing time.

Another brilliant week of learning how to become better handlers and, most importantly, better partners for our dogs.
