KSK9 Dog Training & Behaviour ๐Ÿพ Tailored Training, Endless Patience ๐Ÿถ ๐Ÿพ Hey there, fellow dog enthusiasts!

I'm Kate Stone, the heart and soul behind KSK9 Dog Training. ๐Ÿถ

With nearly 18 years of experience working closely with our beloved furry companions, my journey in the world of dog training has been guided by a lifelong love for dogs and a deep commitment to a more compassionate approach. My family have always owned Border Collies and have been a cherished part of my life since my earliest memorie

s. I grew up in a household where these intelligent and loyal canines weren't just pets; they were cherished family members. It was during these formative years that I witnessed the incredible bond that can exist between humans and dogs, igniting a passion in me to find a kinder, more effective way to communicate and connect with our four-legged friends.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ My upbringing was marked by a contrast in dog-handling philosophies. While my father had a more traditional, heavy-handed approach, my belief in a gentler, more empathetic style of training began to take shape. What truly sets me apart is my unique ability to understand and interpret canine behaviour. I've worked with numerous challenging dogs, including my own companion, Flynt, in 2010. My approach is firmly rooted in positive reinforcement, but it's essential to emphasise that this doesn't make me a pushover. I firmly believe in providing clear and consistent guidance to dogs, helping them understand what's expected while building a foundation of trust and respect.

๐Ÿก From adopting Flynt, this experience opened the door to a collaboration with Border Collie Rescue in Yorkshire, where I dedicated my time to assisting these intelligent and loving dogs in finding their forever homes.

๐Ÿ‘‚ I've had the privilege of working alongside hearing dogs for deaf individuals, where I learned the importance of effective communication, patience, and the incredible impact of positive reinforcement. This experience deepened my appreciation for the remarkable abilities of our canine companions in improving the lives of their owners.

๐Ÿจ For three rewarding years, I worked in a boarding kennel, gaining valuable insights into the diverse needs and behaviours of dogs in various environments.

๐Ÿ“š On the academic front, I've invested in my passion by earning a Level 4 Diploma in Canine Management and Behaviour. Currently, I'm actively pursuing my Level 5 Diploma, continuously expanding my knowledge and honing my skills.

๐Ÿก Most recently, I welcomed a spirited 6-month-old Border Collie into my life. He joined my family after coming from a loving home that needed some assistance with training and day-to-day life. This little bundle of energy keeps me on my toes, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

๐Ÿค My commitment to Border Collie Rescue remains unwavering. I offer my expertise in home visits and support whenever needed because I firmly believe that every dog deserves a chance at a better life.

๐Ÿต You can also find me at Coffee With Art in Bedford, where I have the pleasure of meeting countless dogs in the cafรฉ while supporting the owner of Coffee With Art in launching his exciting new venture, Zebra Pasta. Through KSK9 Dog Training, my mission is to share my wealth of experience and knowledge to help dogs and their owners forge strong, joyous relationships. I'm here to support you on your journey to a harmonious life with your four-legged family members. Let's embark on this adventure together! ๐Ÿพโœจ

What a day at Paws in the Park! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š

It was especially lovely to see a few familiar faces again, including little Molly the Chihuahua who I mentioned after the last event! ๐Ÿฅฐ I even managed to get a picture of her with her dad as they came over to say goodbye before heading off!

I also met so many more wonderful dogs, including Rocco, who just caught me before I was leaving! A gorgeous, excitable French Bulldog who was adopted only a few weeks ago and has already taken a bit of a liking to the catsโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜‚

There seemed to be a bit of a theme todayโ€ฆ dogs who LOVE to chase!

One of those was Lark, the most beautiful Labrador who was so, so well behaved while her owners stopped to chat with me, but squirrels and cats are a different story and can have her lunging on the lead!

That led into discussing some exercises to help with this, and we also gave โ€œleave itโ€ and โ€œwaitโ€ a go in the moment, with Lark proving herself to be a fantastic little demo dog despite everything going on around her. ๐Ÿ’š

We had lots of rescues today too, which was wonderful to see, and so many owners keen to understand their dogs, put the work in and help them as best they can.

There were many more dogs and conversations I could mention, but my brain is officially a little fried this afternoon after all the wonderful and sometimes challenging scenarios ๐Ÿ˜‚

I really hope everyone who stopped by took something useful away from our chats. Thank you to everyone who came over to say hello! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š

Until next time! - I'll be back agaun in September, watch this space for upcoming dates ๐Ÿ‘€

Another day meeting wonderful dogs and their owners ๐Ÿพ

More people are braving coming over to ask their training questions now, which I love because that is exactly what I am here for!

Plus, it gets me more puppy cuddles ๐Ÿ˜‚

We worked with Bailey and his owner on pressure through the lead and helping him learn not to pull.

Bear had a few things to say about the other dogs, so we worked on his reactivity there and then too. Sometimes having the behaviour happen in front of you is the best chance to show an owner what to do in the moment.

Beautiful Skye was an absolute sweetheart. She is a rescue Collie and I felt so honoured that she trusted me enough to come over for a cuddle.

And then there was the tiniest little Chihuahua who was honestly one of the most chilled dogs ever. She is eight years old and had only been with her new owner for 21 days after previously living in a household with 15 dogs.

She has clearly fallen on her paws with her dad, and I even got to hold her for proper snuggles ๐Ÿฅน

I could happily spend all day meeting dogs, hearing their stories and helping with whatever comes up.

Paws in the Park โ€“ What a Wonderful Turnout!

What a wonderful turnout we had for our first Paws in the Park event!

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting so many lovely dogs and their owners. It was such a joy to chat all things dogs, answer questions, offer a few tips, and of course, enjoy plenty of doggy cuddles along the way.

One very special little dog I had the privilege of meeting was Lilly the Dachshund. Sadly, Lilly has previously been attacked by two dogs, so understandably, she can find the world a little worrying at times. It was a real honour to have her feeling comfortable enough to take some chicken from my hand.

Moments like that may seem small, but for a dog who has had frightening experiences, they can be a really lovely step towards building trust and confidence again. Iโ€™m hoping Chief may be able to work some of his magic with her on future walks, helping her feel safer and more confident around other dogs at her own pace.

It was also wonderful to meet so many kind, dedicated owners who clearly want the best for their dogs. Whether people came along for training advice, behaviour tips, a chat, or just to say hello, it was lovely to see such a positive response to the event.

Because it was such a success, myself and the ranger have decided that Paws in the Park will now be held every month!

Dates will be announced soon, and Iโ€™m really looking forward to meeting more of you, as well as hopefully seeing some familiar faces again.

So, if you have a training question, need a bit of advice, want to chat all things dogs, or simply fancy saying hello, please do come along next time.

Officially, Iโ€™m there to offer training tips and behavioural advice. Unofficially, the main reason Iโ€™m there is to give puppy cuddles and hand out chicken!

Chicken and treats will always be on hand, and I hope to see you and your dogs at the next one!

Thank you again to everyone who came along and made the day so lovely. I canโ€™t wait for next time.

Going on holiday?

Leaving your dog behind can feel really emotional, especially when you want to make sure they are safe, settled, and properly cared for while youโ€™re away.

My latest blog looks at choosing between home boarding, kennels, pet sitters, and help from friends or family, including what to ask before booking, what to pack, what information to provide, and a few red flags to look out for.

The right care does not need to be fancy. It needs to be safe, kind, organised, and honest.

You can find this post and my other blogs through the link in my bio.

Got a dog training question? Need a few tips? Or just love talking about dogs?

Come and find me at Harrold Country Park by the Dragonfly Cafe on Saturday 20th June from 11am for a friendly morning drop-in with KSK9 Dog Training.

Pop by for advice, training tips, or just a chat about all things dogs.

Dogs welcome, of course! ๐Ÿถ๐ŸŒณ

Just a quick note โ€” a few flyers handed out at the Odell Family Dog Show had the wrong date on them. The correct date is Saturday 20th June, not the 13th.
