🐾 NEW SATURDAY GUNDOG WORKSHOP! 🐾

🌿 NOVICE GUNDOG – SKILLS, CONTROL & PROGRESSION!

We’re back for another morning of gundog training at Legacy, and this time we’re mixing things up with some new exercises! 🐕🤎

Designed for novice dogs and handlers, this 90-minute workshop will focus on building confidence, strengthening existing skills and introducing some fun new exercises to help take your training that little bit further.

WHAT WILL WE BE WORKING ON?
🐾 Whistle & Response Games
improving recall and stop whistle responsiveness through fun, practical exercises.
🐾 Steadiness & Self-Control learning to remain calm and focused around exciting distractions and moving retrieves.
🐾 Marked & Memory Retrieves developing your dog’s ability to watch, remember and retrieve with confidence.
🐾 Introduction to Directional Work – encouraging dogs to follow simple handler signals and begin working away from you.
🐾 Hunting & Nose Work putting those noses to work with searching exercises while maintaining handler connection and control.

This workshop is all about progression without pressure, giving dogs and handlers the opportunity to develop their skills at their own pace in a relaxed, encouraging environment.

No need for perfect obedience or advanced gundog skills just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and a dog who enjoys having a job to do!

☕️ Tea, coffee and cake afterwards, with plenty of time for a catch-up and questions!

🐾 SUNDAY GUNDOG WORKSHOPS 🐾
We’re running two 90-minute gundog workshops this Sunday, with something for both complete beginners and those ready to take their training to the next level!

🌿 10AM – INTRO TO GUNDOG: PUPPIES & BEGINNERS
Perfect for puppies, young dogs or anyone wanting to have a go at gundog training for the first time.
We’ll be covering:
• Placeboard foundations & steadiness
• Recall whistle
• Introduction to retrieving
• Hunting & using their nose
• Engagement and handler focus
• Building confidence around distractions
No previous gundog experience needed!

🦆 1PM – GUNDOG PROGRESSION: THE NEXT STEP
For dogs and handlers who have already attended our gundog training and are ready to start putting those individual skills together.
We’ll be working on:
• Stop & recall whistle responsiveness
• Marked and memory retrieves
• Steadiness around retrieves
• Hunting with handler control
• Combining stop whistle with retrieves
• Distance, distractions & directional work
• Finishing with a mini working challenge!

A little snapshot from a very special week of training at Legacy 🤍

This week we swapped our usual training field for the stables, giving our clients and their dogs the opportunity to get up close and personal with the horses while working on real-life livestock desensitisation.

For many of the dogs, this was their first time being this close to horses, and they absolutely blew us away.

We worked on calmness and neutrality around livestock, loose lead walking, engagement, recall and the all-important ‘leave it’ around some VERY tempting horse poo!

Training isn’t just about what your dog can do in a familiar field. Taking those skills into completely different environments, around new sights, smells, sounds and distractions, is where we really start to test how well that training translates into everyday life.

We’re incredibly lucky to have access to the horses and stables to give our clients experiences like this in a safe and controlled environment.

This is just a little snapshot of what we got up to so proud of how brilliantly everyone handled the challenge. 🐾

WEEKEND GUNDOG WORKSHOPS

We have two exciting gundog workshops running this weekend at Legacy Dog Training, with just 10 spaces available on each workshop.

SATURDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER | 11.00AM–12.30PM
THE STOP WHISTLE MASTERCLASS
A full 90-minute workshop dedicated to developing one of the most important skills in gundog training — the stop whistle.
We’ll be working on:
• Sharpening the stop whistle close up
• Building distance and reliability
• Stopping during movement
• Stop whistle while hunting
• Stop → redirect → retrieve
• Increasing distractions and difficulty throughout the session

SUNDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER | 11.00AM–12.30PM
THE WORKING GUNDOG CHALLENGE
Put your training to the test with a 90-minute workshop combining a series of gundog exercises and challenges.
We’ll work our way through:
• Heelwork
• Steadiness
• Stop whistle
• Hunting
• Marked retrieves
• Memory retrieves
• And, of course, the famous Legacy Bolting Rabbit!
A brilliant opportunity to bring multiple elements of your gundog training together and test your teamwork in a fun but challenging environment.
10 spaces available

Tea, coffee and cake will be served afterwards on both days, giving everyone a chance to catch up and chat through their training.

🏆 WHAT A MORNING AT THE LEGACY SCURRY!

What a fantastic morning we had on Sunday for our Legacy Up & Over the Bales Scurry!

We had an incredible 23 dogs competing, and it was brilliant to see so many of you getting involved, supporting one another and, most importantly, having so much fun with your dogs.
The competition was certainly close, with just fractions of a second separating our top three!

🥇 1st – Barbara & Echo | 8.6 seconds
🥈 2nd – Regina/Howard & Jett | 9.3 seconds
🥉 3rd – Mike & Arthur | 9.4 seconds

A huge congratulations also goes to our Young Handlers Award winners, Ethan & Ava with Rocket. 🌟

Thank you to every single person who came along and made the morning such a success. And a huge shout out to my helpers dad, Mike and Charlotte, I couldn’t have done it without you.
Events like these are as much about bringing our wonderful Legacy community together as they are about the competition, and Sunday certainly didn’t disappoint.

And, of course, a huge thank you to Graham The Pet Photographer for capturing all the action. There are some absolutely fantastic photographs from the morning, so make sure you find yours and get your favourites ordered!

You can catch Legacy Dog Training at the Frome Cheese Show this Saturday 12th sep!
We’ll be performing our Legacy Dog Training demonstration on the Village Green at 12.45pm, where I’ll be bringing along the Legacy gang to show you what they can do.
We’ll also be over at the Countryside Arena throughout the day, running another Legacy Scurry alongside our meet & greet so come and find us, meet the dogs and have a go!
We can’t wait to see lots of familiar faces there. 🤍

PUPPY TRAINING COURSE | 3 SPACES REMAINING

Our next 6-week Puppy Training Course starts Tuesday 1st September 5pm, with just 3 of our 10 spaces remaining.

Each course consists of six 90-minute bespoke training sessions, giving us plenty of time to work practically with each puppy while also developing your understanding of their behaviour and development.

Throughout the course we’ll cover essential foundations including recall, loose lead walking, impulse control, engagement, settling, socialisation and neutrality, alongside common puppy behaviours and how to manage them effectively.

What makes our puppy courses a little different is the theory behind the training. With an extensive background in breeding, raising and developing puppies, we’ll explore puppy developmental stages, how behaviour changes as they mature, and why adapting your training at the right time is so important.

Our aim is to give you far more than a handful of training exercises. We want you to leave with a genuine understanding of your puppy and the knowledge to help them develop into a confident, well-rounded adult dog.

6 weeks | 90 minutes per session | £120
