Nola is a Romanian rescue who has always struggled with confidence, particularly around men, as well as reactivity towards other dogs.
When we first started working together, walks were extremely challenging. Nola was previously walked on a slip lead, there was constant tension on the lead, very little engagement with her owners, and very limited lead handling and loose lead walking skills in place. Her focus was often on the environment and triggers around her, making everyday walks stressful and overwhelming.
Fast forward to now, and the progress she has made so far has been incredible to watch. Through ethical training and positive reinforcement, we’ve focused heavily on engagement, confidence building, calm responses around dogs, disengagement skills, lead handling, and helping Nola feel safer navigating the world around her.
Alongside training, her owners have also done an amazing job incorporating plenty of decompression walks, long line freedom and secure dog park sessions to help relieve frustration, lower stress levels and allow Nola to properly decompress between training sessions. That balance has played such an important role in her progress and emotional wellbeing.
There’s still ongoing progress to be made, but she truly is becoming a different dog. Her owners should be so proud of themselves for the consistency, patience and dedication they’ve shown throughout this journey so far 🤍
We’re now coming towards the end of our one-to-one sessions together, with just one session left to go, and I’m really looking forward to seeing them again next week 🐾
