Monday Mayhem 🐾🌧️

We set off this morning with the rain falling, but that certainly didn't stop our sniffari masters! In fact, I think they secretly love rainy days because it means a whole new world of smells to investigate. Noses were down, tails were wagging and there was plenty of catching up to do on everything that had happened over the weekend 🌿🐢

Lincoln enjoyed his walk with his step-sister today, who made sure to keep both of us in check with her judging looks πŸ˜‚ Safe to say she had opinions on everything!

Our Furry CEO, Nala, made an appearance once the sunshine finally broke through the clouds β˜€οΈ She spent some time helping Bonnie settle while she's staying with us and giving her mummy a helping hand while she's in season. As always, Nala took her supervisory role very seriously.

The girls enjoyed some garden playtime, sniffing out treats, exploring and enjoying a little enrichment before deciding it was definitely time to relax and recharge 🩷

We finished the day with our Furry CEO helping out little Willow, who is continuing to work on rebuilding her confidence and feeling comfortable in the world again. It's been lovely seeing her take things at her own pace and make progress each week.

Now it's time for some one-to-one sessions this evening before we finally get to put our feet up and relax after another busy day ✨

What's your dog's favourite thing to do on a rainy day – sniffing adventures, treat hunts or curling up for a nap? ⬇️

Saturday mornings at Puppy Academy 🐾

Before the puppies arrive there's equipment to move, activities to set up and plenty of preparation behind the scenes.

Then comes the best part – watching puppies and their owners learn together, build confidence and have fun.

A lovely session with Sadie and Fudge today, followed by a well-earned adventure for our furry CEO, Nala. πŸ’œ

What's one thing your puppy is currently learning?

The side of dog walking people don't always see... 🐾

This morning, during a routine walk, I was bitten by a dog.

Before anyone rushes to blame the dog, I want to make something very clear:

This wasn't a "bad dog".

The dog had been calm, we had given another dog plenty of space, and everything appeared completely normal. Then, in a split second, something changed and I ended up with a bite to my leg.

Thankfully, I'm okay. A little sore, a little bruised and sporting a rather glamorous bandage, but otherwise fine ❀️

What this experience does remind me of is something I talk about often:

Dogs are animals first.

No matter how much training we do, how well we know them, or how experienced we are, dogs can still react to situations in ways we don't always predict.

It's why I'm so passionate about force-free training, understanding canine body language, advocating for space and helping owners learn to read the dog in front of them.

The reality of working with dogs isn't always muddy paws, pretty photos and wagging tails. Sometimes it's adapting, learning and reminding ourselves that every dog deserves understanding rather than judgement.

Today didn't change how I feel about dogs.

If anything, it reinforced why education matters so much.

Have you ever had a moment that reminded you how important it is to listen to what our dogs are telling us? ⬇️

Funday Friday 🐾✨

What a lovely way to end the week!

Today was all about wagging tails, sniffari adventures and making memories with our furry friends. From the moment we set off this morning, there were plenty of noses to the ground as everyone caught up on the latest doggy news and investigated all the exciting smells along the way 🌿🐢

There were zoomies, smiles and plenty of opportunities to explore, with each dog enjoying their adventures at their own pace. Whether it was taking in the sights, hunting out treats or simply spending time with their friends, every walk was packed with enrichment and fun.

Of course, our Furry CEO Nala also enjoyed her own solo walk enjoying treats and reminding me that every adventure is better when you stop to enjoy the little things 🩷

As always, the best part of the day was seeing so many happy faces, wagging tails and tired pups heading home after their adventures.

Now it's time to put our feet up, enjoy a well-earned rest and get ready for another week of adventures ahead!

What's your dog's favourite way to spend a Friday – sniffing, zoomies or cuddles on the sofa? ⬇️

Thursday Trails 🐾🌧️

We kicked off this morning with our Furry CEO, Nala, enjoying one of her special solo adventures. These are the walks where she gets to decide where we go, what we do and how long we're out for 🩷

I always think it's important for dogs to have time where everything is centred around them and their choices. Although, looking back, she probably didn't pick the best day for it after deciding to keep me out in the rain for far longer than expected πŸ˜‚ She absolutely loved every minute though and came home happy, content and very tired.

The morning then turned into a quick errand run, dropping off customer orders at the post office and ticking a few jobs off the list before heading out for our scheduled walks.

It was definitely a ladies-only day today, with all of our walking clients being girls πŸΆπŸ’• Safe to say none of them were particularly impressed by the weather. Willow and Betsy both voted for shorter routes, clearly deciding there was no point being out in the rain any longer than necessary!

The girls were lucky enough to catch a little break in the weather during their garden time and made the most of it. There was plenty of bird chasing, zoomies and keeping me on my toes while I attempted to stay dry beneath the trees 🌳🀣

We finished the day with another little stroll for Nala before heading home for one-to-one sessions and client calls this evening.

Now we're keeping our fingers crossed that the rain eases off a little for tomorrow β˜”οΈπŸ€ž

Does your dog love a rainy adventure or do they start heading home the second the drizzle appears? Let me know below! ⬇️

🚫 Your dog doesn't need to meet every dog they see. They need to feel safe around the dogs they already do. 🐾

🐾 MYTH BUSTING THURSDAY 🐾

❌ Myth: "My dog needs to meet every dog they see to be socialised."

βœ… Truth: Good socialisation isn't about saying hello to every dog. It's about helping your dog feel calm, confident and comfortable around the world around them.

Many owners feel pressured to let their dog greet every dog they pass, but that's not what socialisation is about.

In fact, constantly meeting other dogs can sometimes:
🐾 Create frustration
🐾 Increase arousal levels
🐾 Encourage pulling towards other dogs
🐾 Make it harder for your dog to focus on you

Instead, try:
βœ”οΈ Rewarding calm observation
βœ”οΈ Creating distance when needed
βœ”οΈ Focusing on engagement with you
βœ”οΈ Allowing your dog to move away if they choose

Remember, the goal isn't for your dog to be friends with every dog they meet.

πŸ’œ The goal is a dog who feels safe, relaxed and confident in the presence of other dogs.

πŸ“š Research suggests that successful socialisation is based on positive exposure and learning that the world is safe, rather than being forced into interactions with every dog or person they encounter.

Have you ever felt pressured to let your dog greet another dog on a walk? Let me know in the comments πŸ‘‡

Wet Wednesday 🐾🌧️

We set off this morning hoping the rain would hold off for a little longer, but unfortunately the drizzle arrived during Vinnie's walk β˜”οΈ

Not that it bothered our sniffari experts! If anything, they seemed delighted because everyone knows rain brings a whole new world of smells to investigate. Noses were down, tails were wagging and they made sure to take their time exploring every scent trail they could find 🌿🐢

Our Furry CEO, Nala, was picked up to spend some time with her friends today as George is heading off on holiday. We wanted to make sure he left in the highest spirits possible, and judging by the wagging tail and happy face, mission accomplished 🩷

Poor Tuppy definitely got the worst of the weather though! The heavens opened just as we reached the clearing and we all ended up absolutely soaked πŸ˜‚ Thankfully there were plenty of laughs, wagging tails and puddle-dodging attempts along the way.

The girls didn't seem too bothered by the light drizzle during their garden time either. They enjoyed plenty of foraging, bird watching and games of "find Tara" before deciding it was definitely time for an afternoon nap 😴

Once the walks were finished, it was a quick trip to the gym before heading home to take Nala out for her own little adventure before our one-to-one session this evening.

Hopefully this is the last of the rain for a little while... although I have a feeling the dogs would disagree and happily vote for more sniffari weather πŸŒ§οΈπŸ˜‚

Does your dog love rainy day walks or do they act like they're made of sugar and might melt? ⬇️

Tuesday Trails 🐾🌿

We set off this morning hoping the rain would stay away and armed with plenty of honey tea to help save my voice πŸ―β˜•οΈ

Our sniffari masters were first on the list and, as always, they made sure to take me down every winding path possible while following their noses. We also continued reinforcing some lead walking skills that one of our owners has been working hard on at home. Consistency is key when it comes to training, and we're always happy to support the hard work our owners are putting in between sessions 🩷

Our Furry CEO, Nala, was picked up just before lunch because after a rather mopey George yesterday, I wanted to make sure he got to spend some time with his bestie today. Safe to say he was much happier! πŸ˜‚ He even tried taking us down a path that led absolutely nowhere near his house, clearly hoping the adventure would continue.

Lincoln was equally pleased to see Nala and spent his walk leading us down a beautiful flowery trail, bouncing happily from one side of the path to the other 🌼🐢

Once Nala was dropped home, we headed off to see the girls, who were more than happy to spend their free run time chasing me, chasing birds and generally causing a little chaos. They also became completely fascinated watching a local farmer collecting hay bales in the neighbouring field. Oddly therapeutic for all of us really 🚜🌾

We finished the day with Nala requesting a little evening stroll of her own once we got home before settling in and getting everything ready for our one-to-one sessions tonight.

Another busy day filled with happy dogs, wagging tails and plenty of smiles 🐾✨

🐾 Does your dog stop every few steps to sniff?

Before you sigh and look at the clock, remember that sniffing isn't your dog being stubborn – it's your dog gathering information about the world around them.

For dogs, a walk isn't just about physical exercise. It's an opportunity to:
🌿 Explore their environment
🧠 Use their brain
πŸ‘ƒ Process scents and information
πŸ’œ Meet their mental enrichment needs

Sometimes the biggest sign your dog needs a sniff break isn't that they're tired physically – it's that they're tired mentally.

A slower walk with opportunities to sniff can help lower arousal levels, build confidence, reduce stress, and leave your dog feeling far more satisfied than simply marching from A to B.

πŸ”¬ Science backs this up too. Research by Horowitz et al. (2019) found that dogs given opportunities to sniff during walks showed more optimistic behaviour in cognitive bias tests, suggesting sniffing may support positive emotional wellbeing. Other studies have highlighted the importance of olfactory enrichment in reducing stress and improving welfare in dogs.

Take a swipe through these 5 signs your dog might be asking for a little more time to follow their nose. πŸ‘ƒβž‘οΈ

A busy Monday at Nala's Trails 🐾

While the gang were out exploring, sniffing and enjoying their adventures, the CEO had other plans...

Nala decided today was for resting. πŸ’œ

Sometimes the best thing we can do for our dogs isn't another walk, another game or another training session. Sometimes it's simply giving them the space to recharge.

Every dog is an individual, and meeting the dog in front of you means recognising when they need adventure and when they need rest.

Today was a reminder that both are important. 🐾

How does your dog like to spend their perfect day?
